About the Games
The New Zealand Masters Games unites people and communities through sport and play. The Games were founded in 1989 and are now Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest and longest running multisport event, alternating between Dunedin and Whanganui each year.
Over nine days, the 2023 Masters Games will host around 5,000 participants competing in fifty-five plus sporting codes in various locations across Whanganui.
Kicked off by an opening ceremony to welcome guests and locals alike, a varied entertainment programme will keep the city centre humming throughout the event.
When not playing sport, participants (and their supporters and our sponsors) are invited to relax and enjoy entertainment at the Games Village located in the CBD.
