As required by law, every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. This process, called redistricting, is important to ensure that each voting district is about the same size. Redistricting is done using U.S. Census data released on September 27, 2021 which shows the City of Selma’s population declined by 2,785 between the 2010-2020 Census.
