ABOUT US: We are a small group currently living in the Lewiston area - artists, writers, musicians and gardeners who love Lewiston, want to share resources, live in long-term affordable housing, and offer a supportive community to each other and the people around us.
A large part of what we're working towards has to do with the decision-making structure of the organization. We are building a consensus based community that is as safe as it is open. We want to empower not just ourselves but the community as a whole - on and off the property. We are committed to a shared ownership model that is affordable and secure. We are developing an income sharing structure because we might not have much as individuals, but as a collective we have an abundance!
ABOUT THE PROPERTY: We are purchaing an 8 acre farm in Monmouth, about 25 minutes outside of downtonw Lewiston, and about halfway between Lewiston and Augusta. The farm includes a large barn, two-car garage and a six-bedroom, 3.5 bath farmhouse.
The buy-in is $780 and can be paid out in installments, up to 12 months (one year). The monthly housing fees will average out to $900 per bedroom, based on a scale that considers household size, household income, and square footage of private bedrooms.
The income from Members will pay for housing costs and the restoration of the original buildings.
Once the restoration is complete, scheduled for 2026, income from Members will build equity for a multi-family building in the back of the property that Members will move into.
The property will be shared with a cooperative farm that housing co-op Members can also join. The farm co-op will pay rent and profit share with the housing co-op to fund the restoration of the historic buildings, and construction of the new building.
