Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we begin our voyage for the upcoming school year, we are asking that you take the time to visit with your child about the expectation we have set in regards to students being in possession of electronic devices on campus or the bus. Please reference page 5 in your child’s planner, the policy that states:
Cell phones, cameras, MP3 players, CD players, portable gaming systems and any other electronic devices are not allowed on campus. If your child brings an electronic device to school, it will be confiscated, a consequence will be given and a parent will have to pick up the device. Repeated offenses will be dealt with as insubordination and could lead to dismissal. Discovery Academy will not be responsible for any lost or stolen electronic devices.
It is considered a DISMISSIBLE OFFENSE if a Discovery Academy student takes pictures or records events on campus and/or posts any school related images on Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or other internet sites.
“DISMISSIBLE” IS DEFINED AS THE STUDENT BEING WITHDRAWN FROM DISCOVERY ACADEMY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. (THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN HIS/HER ZONED SCHOOL OR OTHER EDUCATIONAL ALTERNATIVE
THE “CAMPUS” IS DEFINED AS THE AREAS UNDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF DISCOVERY ACADEMY – INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE SCHOOL SITE, BUS TRANSPORTATION, AND SPONSORED ACTIVITIES.
Once you and your child have reviewed the above policy and expectations, please return this letter to your child’s advisory teacher with appropriate signatures. If any clarifications to the policy need to be addressed, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at (863) 295-5955.
