• Sheffield age group championships - July 9th 2022

    Open to all Sheffield players who were under the age of 18 as of 01/09/2021. New players from outside Sheffield wishing to gain tournament experience are also welcome. The U18/U15/U13 and U11/U9 sections may be merged depending upon numbers.
  • Games: Players play all five games, starting at 11.00am. You receive 15 minutes each on the clock for the game, with an additional 10 seconds per move. This competition will be ECF Rapidplay rated. 

    This is an individual competition. However, players may also form teams of 3 players (all from the same school, or club, or town, or a group of friends, etc). There will be a prize for the top team.

    This event incorporates the Sheffield U18 (Y13 and below)/U15 (Y10 and below)/U13 (Y8 and below)/U11 (Y6 and below)/U9 (Y4 and below). The top Sheffield player in each age group will become the Sheffield Champion for that age group.

    Venue: Mercia School, Carter Knowle Rd, Sheffield S7 2DY

    Entry fee: £10

    Prize fund: Trophies/medals. Book prizes if we have 25+ entrants. Cash prizes will also be paid if we have a total of 35+ entrants. 

    ECF membership: You must either:

    a) Have silver ECF membership or above (free for the first year, join at ecf.azolve.com) - memberships bought now are valid until end August 2023, or

    b) pay the ECF's 'pay to play' competition fee (currently £2.50 juniors).

    Playing schedule:

    Round 1 - 11.00am

    Round 2 - 12pm

    Lunch break

    Round 3 - 1.45pm

    Round 4 - 2.45pm

    Round 5 - 3.45pm

    Prizegiving - as soon as possible after Round 5. We aim to finish by 4.45pm.

    • I accept that the FIDE Laws of Chess and ECF Competition Rules apply, and the English Chess Federation's 'Rules for Acceptance of Games for Rating'.
    • I accept that the Arbiters' decisions are final in all matters.
    • I enter this competition at my own risk. I understand in particular that, whilst the organisers will take sensible health and safety precautions, I will not hold the organisers liable in the event of any transmission of Covid-19.
    • I will comply with Covid precautions (e.g. sanitising hands, maximum capacity of rest/analysis room, leaving playing hall immediately after match, etc) which are required either by law or by the organisers for health and safety reasons.
    • I agree to treat the venue and premises with respect.
    • I agree to let the organisers know as soon as practical in the event that I am unable to attend, as maximum capacity rules may be in place.
    • I understand that it is a condition of entry that photographs may be taken of the event for publicity purposes. If I am not happy for my child to be included in any such photographs, I agree to inform the organisers. 
    • Withdrawals after July 2nd will be refunded only with a Test and Trace notification to self-isolate or in the event of a positive Covid test result. 
    • I understand that if the automated payment link isn't operational I will receive a payment request link for entering the competition, and that my entry is only confirmed once the relevant entry fee has been paid.
    • Entries after July 2nd will be subject to a late fee of £2.50.
