• Sacred Circle Garden Site Visits

  • You’re invited to visit to the future site of the Sacred Circle Garden. The garden, named Cangleska Wakan, which translates to “Sacred Circle” in Lakota, will serve as a space in which we learn to protect, respect and understand the area’s vibrant history, environment and the connections we all share.

  • Thank you for joining the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) Foundation Sacred Circle Garden site tour! This is your opportunity to experience the future site of the Sacred Circle Garden on a hilltop meadow, look out to the four directions and find your connection to the Black Hills. You’ll also participate in a hands-on activity, the first of many to be offered in this space for learners of all cultures and ages.

    Important things to know:
Fifteen minutes before your tour’s start time, meet at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center in Lead, South Dakota (160 W Main St, Lead, SD 57754). You will be greeted by your guide and board a Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) van, which will take us to the site of the future Sacred Circle Garden. Closed-toe shoes are required for safety. This tour will last about 30 to 45 minutes and will include a short walk up a dirt road. Please be prepared to spend 20 to 30 minutes outside.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the SURF Foundation by phone (605-722-4060) or by email (SURFFoundation@sanfordlab.org).
