Mid-South Sports and Education Group along with the B1 Foundation and its Board of Directors are proud to present the Reuben N. Chanay and Prentiss Russom Scholarship Golf Classic on Friday, April 14, 2023, “Bridging Education and Business”.
Mid-South Sports and Education Group is a professional development and management company based in Pearl, MS and the B1 Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization also based in Pearl, MS was established to support single parents and low-income families who are trying to gain education and professional pursuits. The Foundation also provides monies and programs for the homeless in the Jackson Metro area.
The Scholarship Golf Classic is named for Reuben N. Chanay, a long- term educator from Pine Bluff, Arkansas who was a legacy in education not only in Pine Bluff but in the State of Arkansas. Mr. Chanay, a veteran educator during the 1930’s - 1950’s was one of the most educated and debonair men that walked this earth. He genuinely cared about everyone, his students, faculty, staff, family, and the community at large. The Classic is also named for Prentiss Russom, a successful businessperson and farmer from Forest, Mississippi. On his farm, Mr. Russom specialized in raising chickens. He was so successful, he raised upwards to 66,000 chickens and where he contracted to Tyson Foods, Inc. One of the unique qualities of his business, was that each chicken was fed by hand in his bucket feeder. Mr. Russom used to say, why change when you have a good thing going.
This year’s proceeds will provide scholarships to the Mississippi School of Health Services and Careers, the Nate Ruffin Scholarship Fund, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. scholarship fund for national, regional, state and local levels. The proceeds will also provide monies for programming for the homeless through the Jackson Metro area.
Through their grandchildren eyes, Dr. Marcus A. Chanay, who serves as the Principal Managing Partner/President and CEO of Mid-South Sports and Education Group and Makeba White Chanay, who serves as the Chairperson for the B1 Foundation Board are continuing their grandfather's legacy by committing themselves to students and the community.
