GAL/AMC Prerecorded Mandatory Trainings
Training Requirements

Eight 2-hour prerecorded sessions and additional reading assignments. This is a mandatory preservice training. Attendees who fail to watch and complete any portion of the training will not be eligible to accept GAL/AMC appointments.

Students
The GAL/AMC training may be available to 3rd year law students as well as final-year graduate students studying in the areas of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, psychology or psychiatry. Please note that student registration is not guaranteed and must be approved by the Standing Committee on Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) and Attorneys for the Minor Child (AMC) in Family Matters. Students will be notified via email regarding the status of their registration following a determination by the Standing Committee. Please note that students who complete the full 20 hours of training will not be deemed eligible for appointment as an AMC/GAL unless/until they otherwise comply with all eligibility requirements in PB Sections 25-62 and 25-62A.
Persons eligible to serve as a guardian ad litem or attorney for the minor child must certify that:
1) You are an attorney in good standing, licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut by the Judicial Branch, or are a mental health professional licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and in good standing in the areas of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, psychology or psychiatry; 2) You do not have a criminal record; 3) You do not appear on the Department of Children and Families’ central registry of child abuse and neglect; and you meet all eligibility criteria in the Connecticut Practice Book Sec. 25-62
