College Access Fairfax welcomes volunteers to help us with our programs. Below are positions where volunteers can be of assistance:
FAFSA/CSS Profile Completion Support
Specialized training is required for this task. Individuals volunteering for this role should have a background in financial aid.
Scholarship Application Readers
Each year, College Access Fairfax serves as the umbrella organization for 12-15 scholarships awarded to graduating seniors from Fairfax County. Each applicant is assessed by three (3) individual readers who score each application following rubrics created to meet each scholarship’s eligibility criteria. Reading/evaluating is done online during the month of March at the evaluator’s convenience. Evaluators will receive anywhere from 10-20 separate applications to read and score.
Although this volunteer position is ideal for current or retired teachers, counselors, or those who have been involved with financial aid, we welcome all volunteers who are willing to offer their time.
Spanish Interpreter
We are looking for Spanish speakers who are willing to act as interpreters to assist our Financial Aid Champions (FACs) when they work one-on-one with Spanish-speaking students and parents. Since our FACs frequently work with families outside of school hours, interpreters would need to be available evenings and/or weekends.
