Paint-Outs are open to all OPM members and their guests. Participants are not required to register, but it's helpful so we can communicate any last minute changes to locations or weather cancellations. Participants may arrive any time during the duration of the paint-out, but keep in mind that painters may spread out and be hard to find.

Crow-Hassan Park Reserve | Three Rivers Park District
In 2019, Three Rivers Park District celebrated 50 years of prairie restoration, and it all started with Crow-Hassan Park Reserve. What began in the fall of 1969 as less than 20 acres of grasses has turned into an important ecosystem that supports a large diversity of animals, insects, and plants.

There are great walking locations from the parking lot that are not too far. There are no paved trails, either grass or loose sandy gravel trails. They are not ideal if you need to pull a cart. When you enter the parking lot, there are two trails that I think are very good for the afternoon light. There should be some native wildflowers in bloom along with the prairie grasses. The first trail is just south of the parking lot. It has a gate that is usually closed and you just walk around that and onto the gravel trail a short distance. I like the view of the south and west views of the prairie. That's where I will be. There is also another grassy walk to the west that has some nice views too. I'll be happy to walk with you and show you some areas. There is a bathroom at the parking lot.
Remember to bring appropriate gear for the weather, drinking water and snacks. Avoid setting up in walking paths, parking lots, or any place your presence might obstruct foot or vehicle traffic. Always stay alert to your surroundings!
