By sponsoring a WCDH fellowship, your financial gift allows us to:
~ Maintain our property ensuring a safe, comfortable, and inspiring sanctuary for writers to focus on their work;
~ Promote WCDH widely and cost effectively, allowing us to efficiently spread the word about who we are and what we do to new audiences;
~ Promote our writers by providing publication opportunities through eMerge, the online literary magazine of WCDH.
~ We recruit about 15 volunteer WCDH alumni readers judge each fellowship. This keeps them feeling connected to WCDH, and since they work with other writers on their selection, helps develop relationships and grow their network of fellow writers;
~ In addition to the fellowship winner, we award general residencies to the applicants. We typically have 5 or 6 general residencies scheduled because of each fellowship we run;
~ When the fellowship winner is selected, we announce it in our networks, local media, and the winner’s local and affiliated media. While promoting the winner we are again promoting WCDH to a new audience.
~ There is significant prestige that comes with winning a fellowship, which can give a boost to a writer’s confidence and career. Fellowship winners are some of our biggest advocates.
~ Each fellowship winner performs community outreach during their residency. This may include a partnership with a regional organization for a workshop, reading, etc. When the winner chooses to do a workshop at WCDH, the revenue benefits the WCDH scholarship fund. Either way, it allows us to again promote the fellowship, its winner, and WCDH.
~ Provide an opportunity to build awareness of WCDH as we promote new fellowship opportunities to writers from a targeted genre, demographic, or area of interest.
Each fellowship winner receives a two-week residency to allow the recipient to focus completely on their work. WCDH provides uninterrupted writing time, a European-style gourmet dinner prepared five nights a week and served in our community dining room, the camaraderie of other professional writers when desired, and a community kitchen stocked with the basics for other meals.
Community outreach is required of each fellowship recipient establishing lasting connections between visiting writers and local residents and providing our community with exposure to writers from diverse backgrounds.
WCDH fellowship sponsors may choose to:
~ Name the ellowship and determine its parameters,
~ Assist in developing the fellowship judging criteria,
~ Serve as a final judge,
~ Fellowship sponsors are invited to join the writers at dinner during the fellowship winner’s residency so they can meet the writer in person.
Thank you for sponsoring a WCDH fellowship!
