ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
Decidedly Different Events (MWBE), is a full-service event production company in New York City. Via our creative arm, we produce and manage high caliber art programs in NYC public schools.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Decidedly Different Events (DDE) is seeking a part-time Teaching Artist (Visual Arts) for an after-school program for the 2025-2026 school calendar year. The Teaching Artist will report to and work closely with the Principal of DDE and its Program Director. Primary responsibilities include the development and oversight of daily art projects for children in an afterschool setting that will provide the landscape for art showcases produced by DDE.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend program daily, Monday through Friday. Must be on school site during program hours, approximately 3pm-6pm (M, T, Th, F) / 12pm-4pm (W)
- Develop daily art projects that align with chosen themes / clubs and submit weekly art project plans that provide framework to aid in facilitation
- Submit weekly art plans for planning and (supply) procurement purposes
- Ability to develop a range of activities applicable to various age groups (K-5) that dovetail with overall program goals
- Develop a routine for children to follow, from program start to dismissal
- Manage Teaching Artist Assistant responsibilities and activities
- Ability to observe student behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and respond in a fitting manner
- Provide safety guidelines for all projects and oversee associated safety protocols for all participants
- Draft in-program incident reports and provide summary of program high and lowlights to the Program Director
- Meet with Principal of DDE to discuss program objectives and trajectory
- Perform other duties as assigned
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
We’re looking for a candidate with real-world work experience, which doesn’t always equate to an undergraduate degree. Yes, we have preferences (which are listed below) but we will also strongly consider candidates with field experience. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Ability to teach arts and crafts to children
- A background in fine arts (studying in college or comparable experience)
- Skilled in conflict resolution
- Supervisory experience; manage classroom of 25-30+ students, maintain engagement, structure and positive learning environment
- Skilled in conflict resolution
- A creative and highly organized individual
Preferences:
- Undergraduate degree (or working towards completion)
- Bilingual, Spanish/English
- Fingerprinted with the Department of Education (DOE)
- CPR Certified
SALARY
This is a long term, part-time contract / freelance position (1099). Pay rate is $25-28 per hour, with a minimum of 15 hours per week (maximum of 20). This position includes uniforms.
