Lawson School of Music Travis Mitchell Scholarship Application Form

Applications will be reviewed by The Lawson School of Music Staff. If selected, the student will receive a year (Fall Term-Spring Term) of free private lessons. They will still be responsible for any books and recital fees for the year.
About the Scholarship

The Lawson School of Music Scholarship is named after Travis Mitchell. Travis was a musician, artist, and creative from Hardin County who was diagnosed with Lyme disease in his early 20s that then developed in to ALS. Travis lost the ability to move or speak because of this disease. He continued to communicate and live for several years despite the initial prognosis from doctors. His creative spirit continued on until he passed away in 2023. In honor of his life, we name this scholarship after him. Our hope is that the students awarded this scholarship will create art and music in a way that Travis was not able to due to his disease and by doing so, honor his life and memory.

I also understand that if selected to be on scholarship, I must exhibit these qualities to maintain my scholarship:

1. Practicing regularly outside of lesson time.

2. Coming to lessons prepared (bringing music, assignments, pencil, turning in assignments outside of lesson time on time, etc).

3. Exhibiting a great attitude and being a leader amongst my peers in the studio.

4. Eagerness to learn

5. Attending instrument specific lab classes if your teacher offers them.

If a teacher feels that the scholarship receipient is not meeting these standards, they will hold a meeting with the student and parent to come up with a plan to correct concerns. If after this meeting the student still does not meet the standards listed above, they may lose their scholarship with The Lawson School of Music.
