Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto’s (MCC Toronto) Code of Conduct applies to all volunteers involved in any church program.
MCC Toronto is a spiritual community with many programs led by volunteers, program participants or members, and/or staff. This Code of Conduct exists because respect, honesty, and integrity are very important to MCC Toronto. How we treat each other is just as important as the work we do.
Responsibility
We are called to discover our Spiritual Gifts and use our gifts within our community. As we work towards living out our vision and mission as a church, we are all called to be responsible for ourselves, our teams, and community. As a volunteer we are all responsible for our own actions and behaviours. Each volunteer is part of a team and reports to a team leader. Each team of volunteers is connected and reports to a staff person, who reports to the Senior Pastor.
Respect
As we work and learn together, we need to be respectful of each other’s opinions, thoughts, and ideas. At MCC Toronto we do not discriminate or harass each other. We are expected to treat everyone equally, with respect, and follow the Ontario Human Rights Code. We all come from different backgrounds, and we need to be respectful of our words and actions as well as how people may perceive them. One way we respect each other at MCC Toronto is having a scent-free space. Please do not wear products like perfume, after shave, scented hair products since they can affect the health of people who have allergies and sensitivities. Thank you!
Honesty
We should act in a way that helps us learn new things and is respectful of others. We always aim to create a safe environment for everyone, and act honestly towards others.
Conflict of Interest
We have a responsibility to avoid conflicts of interest. A conflict of interest is a situation where someone uses their relationship with the church to gain a benefit for themselves.
This could include:
- Doing things as a church volunteer to gain a benefit for themselves and/or doing things that go against the core values and bedrock beliefs of MCC Toronto.
- Accepting gifts or money as payment for participating in activities, programs, or events.
- Partners both being members of the same MCC Toronto team, or one partner reporting to another partner may be a conflict (for example, two partners being on the Board of Directors, or a staff member being the partner of a team member)
Confidentiality
Information that volunteers may receive about others while volunteering is private and confidential, and should not be shared with others. Unless the information is needed to perform your role, any personal information about others should not be shared with anyone. Private information should never be shared with anyone that is not working on the same project, staff, friends, family, or other church volunteers. If someone else’s private information is shared, a volunteer may be asked to resign.
Media
Communicating with the media (newspapers, television, or radio shows) for MCC Toronto is the responsibility of the Communications Manager. If any volunteer gets a request from the media, they should immediately contactthe Communications Manager by emailing communications@mcctoronto.com.
Boundaries
We are accountable to conduct ourselves in a way that respects our own boundaries. We will also be sensitive to the range of boundaries that others may have and will strive to respect the boundaries of others.
