BFS New Student Application

Thank you for your interest in Bozeman Field School! The online application consists of biographical information, short response questions, a longer essay response, and contact information for recommendations. Before starting this form, you should know who you will be asking to write your recommendations, as well as contact information for these people. We require one math teacher recommendation and one English teacher recommendation, as well as an optional recommendation that may be completed by a teacher, coach, or other non-family member who knows you well. Please note that it is your responsibility to ask your recommender to submit your recommendations in a timely fashion, which can be done by email to admissions@bozemanfieldschool.org.

Please also take a look at our essay prompts below. It is highly recommended that you complete this prompt before beginning your application, as you will be required to submit a digital file before your application is complete. You will be choosing ONE of the following to respond to in a one-page, open format.

• Imagine you’re looking through a window. What do you see, and why is it meaningful to you?

• If you were given an extra hour every day, how would you use it and why?

• If you could talk with anyone, alive or dead, for one hour, who would you choose and why? What would you talk about?

• Describe three songs you would choose to put on your perfect playlist and why.

We require one math teacher recommendation and one English teacher recommendation. The BFS Merit Scholarship is granted to candidates who embody the mission of BFS by demonstrating strong academic ability, leadership, generosity, and integrity. Are you interested in applying for a merit-based scholarship?

BFS Merit Scholarship recipients are chosen by the admissions committee. The committee will take everything from the above application into account along with these supplemental essays. The committee will be looking for evidence of strong academic ability, leadership, generosity, and integrity. Please upload your responses to BOTH of the essay prompts listed below. They should be in the form of short essays, approximately 300-500 words each (about 1 1/2 pages, double-spaced). Prompt #1: Write about a time when you were part of a team and faced a challenge. What was the challenge? What role did you play on the team and how did you address the outcome? How did you address the challenge and what was the outcome? Would you do anything differently?
