Critical infrastructure and related essential services lie at the core of our societies. Online connectivity however exposes them to increasing nefarious elements of cyberspace as different actors exploit cyberspace to cause mischief, collect intelligence, demand ransom, and purposefully destroy or disrupt services. When it comes to critical infrastructure, these actions can result in a serious crisis or even lead to a kinetic conflict. As a result, both providers and users must rethink security features, protocols, and relevant regulations.
In a true multistakeholder fashion, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, the Government Information Security Office of the Republic of Slovenia, Microsoft, and the University of Ljubljana conducted a series of workshops on how to protect critical infrastructure in four different sectors: water, electric power, healthcare, and the financial sector. Our objectives were to understand ongoing cybersecurity threats against this important part of our societies and to identify good practices that could be implemented to raise the levels of cybersecurity across the world.
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the launch of the summary report containing an analysis of relevant regulation, good practices, international law and norms on protecting critical infrastructure against cyber threats on Tuesday, 26th July 2022 at 13:15 at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Nations in New York (630 Third Avenue (20th Floor), 10017 New York). Lunch will be provided.
During the interactive, hybrid workshop we will present the recommendations identified, but also explore how multistakeholder partnerships can be leveraged to improve the protection of critical infrastructure at national, regional, and international levels. We also hope that the report will contribute to the body of work being developed to support the implementation of the 11 norms of responsible state behaviour agreed at the United Nations and be of use to other stakeholders beginning or evolving the critical infrastructure protection journey.
A full agenda will follow in the coming days
We hope we can see you in New York (or at least online)!
