    This category is for individuals who work in the steel construction industry as fabricators, erectors, detailers, etc. 

    Designer
    This category is for individuals who design with structural steel, such as engineers and architects. 

    Educator
    This category is for individuals who research and teach about structural steel, such as university professors.

  • J. Lloyd Kimbrough Award
    Honors engineers and architects who are universally recognized as the pre-eminent steel designers of their era. This prestigious award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the structural steel industry through his or her design work. 

    Note: It should not be expected for this award to be presented annually, as it is only given when deemed necessary and appropriate by the jury. 

    Lifetime Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have made a difference in the success of AISC and the structural steel industry over a sustained period of time.

    Note: Individuals must have been involved with AISC for several years during this time (such as on the board of directors, committees, task groups and/or special projects)

    Special Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have demonstrated a notable achievement that has had a positive and substantial impact on the structural steel design and construction industry.

  • Geerhard Haaijer Award for Excellence in Education
    Honors individuals who have had a profound and lasting impact in developing a unique application for engineering practice or in the mentoring of future technical leaders. This prestigious award honors those who, through their research and teaching, have had an outstanding impact on advancing the use of structural steel framing in the construction industry. 

    Note: It should not be expected for this award to be presented annually, as it is only given when deemed necessary and appropriate by the jury.

    Lifetime Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have made a difference in the success of AISC and the structural steel academic community over a sustained period of time through research, education, and/or teaching. 

    Note: Individuals must have been involved with AISC for several years during this time (such as on committees, task groups and/or special projects)

    Special Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have made a positive and substantial impact on the structural steel design and construction industry through one or more particular projects in research, teaching, and structural steel education.

    Early Career Faculty Award
    Honors individuals who demonstrate promise in the areas of structural steel research, teaching, and/or other contributions to the structural steel industry.

    Note: Individuals must be full-time faculty in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or Construction Management at North American universities, who are on the tenure track or have received tenure within the last three years.

  • Robert P. Stupp Award for Leadership Excellence
    Honors individuals who have provided unparalleled leadership in the steel construction industry. This prestigious award honors those who, through their leadership, have had an outstanding impact on advancing the use of structural steel in the construction industry.

    Note: It should not be expected for this award to be presented annually, as it is only given when deemed necessary and appropriate by the jury. 

    Lifetime Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have made a difference in the success of AISC and the structural steel industry over a sustained period of time.

    Note: Individuals must have been involved with AISC for several years during this time (such as on the board of directors, committees, task groups and/or special projects)

    Special Achievement Award
    Honors individuals who have demonstrated a notable achievement that has had a positive and substantial impact on the structural steel design and construction industry.

    This award is given in special recognition to individuals who have had a profound and lasting impact in developing a unique application for engineering practice or in the mentoring of future technical leaders. This prestigious award honors those who, through their research and teaching, have had an outstanding impact on advancing the use of structural steel framing in the construction industry.

    The selection panel will consider the individual's:

    • outstanding impact on the advancement of the use of structural steel through research or mentoring
    • contribution through writings, teaching, and research
    • recognition by other educators for innovative leadership, excellence in teaching or significance of research
    • work with students through student organizations
    • introduction of innovative teaching methods and concepts

Also, because of the prestigious nature of this award, it is expected that this award will not be presented annually; rather, it will only be awarded when the selection panel believes that an individual is clearly worthy of this honor.

    • service to the steel construction industry
    • recognition by other steel industry groups
    • respect and recognition by his/her peers within the steel construction industry
    • acknowledgment as having reached the pinnacle of success within the steel construction industry
    • demonstrated innovation and originality in providing leadership to the steel construction industry

Also, because of the prestigious nature of this award, it is expected that this award will not be presented annually; rather, it will only be awarded when the selection panel believes that an individual is clearly worthy of this honor.

  • You've indicated that you'd like to nominate an individual for our Terry Peshia Early Career Faculty Award.

    Terry Peshia Early Career Faculty Awards provide recognition to individuals who demonstrate promise in the areas of structural steel research, teaching, and/or other contributions to the structural steel industry. 

    This award is for full-time faculty in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or Construction Management at North American universities, who are on the tenure track or have received tenure within the last three years. 

    You will need to submit the following items as part of the application process: 

    • Copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae
    • Brief summary (2-3 sentences) of the potential impact of the nominee's planned structural steel research on the structural steel industry (this summary should be written by the nominee)
    • List of all classes that the nominee has taught and a set of sample class notes
    • Summary of student evaluations and selected student comments
    • Two letters of reference
