Courage and Fear: Jewish Ancestral Wisdom for Crisis Times
A Mussar Workshop With Rabbi Susan Goldberg and Sally Dworsky
What times we are living in! We are challenged personally and collectively to navigate the unknown and reach into ourselves and each other for strength of heart, ometz lev. Thankfully, there is ancient wisdom to guide and support us. Join as we explore one of the tools of the Jewish ancestral tradition, mussar, on Saturday, July 30th at the Eastside Jewish Commons, or on Zoom.
Mussar is spiritual wisdom and a discipline of transformative practices linking our inner lives, relationships, communities, and the world around us. Mussar is centered in the middot, foundational values. In this workshop we will engage with two middot: Courage and Fear, Ometz Lev and Yirah. Both are so needed in our personal lives and in the collective. Rabbi Susan offers a liberatory, embodied experience of the middot and will explore them through text, discussion, movement and breath practices, and writing, bolstered by music and song with Sally Dworsky. We encourage you to join this learning whether you have studied the middot previously or if this is your first time, and whether you are Jewish or not. All are welcome!
Rabbi Susan Goldberg is the founding Rabbi of Nefesh, an open hearted, middot-driven, Jewish outreach organization and spiritual community based in Tovaangar/Los Angeles. She is a spiritual teacher, mama, dancer, movement builder, social justice organizer, and consultant for media and art projects.
Sally Dworsky is the Associate Music Director at Nefesh. She is a singer, songwriter, and happy mom of two young adults.
