Petition to Luton Borough Council
We the undersigned Residents of Luton 1. Applaud the works carried out by Marsh Farm Outreach (MFO) and volunteers in the community to rescue Marsh House from the state of decay the council left it in and saving it from likely demolition. 2. Demand the council stop the unfair designation of MFO as a commercial tenant for rent purposes whilst burdening them with all the repair and maintenance responsibilities of a Community Asset Transfer. 3. Call on the council to support MFOs application for a Community Asset Transfer with a peppercorn rent to bring them into line with other community organisations who have assumed full responsibility for council owned buildings. 4. Call on the council to act on the advice of its own independent chair of standards by extending the rent earned period to Oct 2022 thereby wiping out any alleged rent arrears and removing the barrier to a Community Asset Transfer. 5. Demand an end to discriminatory treatment of MFO in recognition of the fact that the value of the work and materials they have invested to bring the building back into community use far exceeds the value of the rent being claimed by LBC.
