  • Thank you for electing to participate in the Invent2Prevent ("Program/Contest"). This Participation Agreement is entered into by and between the professor identified below and by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships ("DHS CP3”) (“Program/Contest Sponsor”).

    Please confirm your commitment to participate in the Program/Contest and your agreement with the terms set out below by providing your information and signature below.

    The Program/Contest is supported on participating college/university campuses. The Program/Contest sponsor is providing the following resources to assist in the implementation and management of the Program/Contest:

    • A Program Support representative to support and assist in Program/Contest management. This person is available to you and your students via your preferred method(s) of communication, as well as the Program/Contest website portal.
    • An operational budget provided by the Program/Contest Sponsor to be used by the students for the development, implementation, and analysis of their Project. Project/Contest funds CANNOT be used for any other purpose and the project may not exceed the amount provided. DHS CP3 will not provide additional funds.
    • A Program/Contest website portal outlining Program objectives, timeline, and deliverables.

    Your school’ participation in the Program will include the following, which must be successfully completed and approved by EVP in order complete the Program:

    • If the Program/Contest is conducted as part of a class project, build the Program/Contest deliverables into the course syllabus.
    • If conducted through a student organization or as an independent team, ensure that the Program/Contest deliverables are submitted on time.
      Implement the Program/Contest support materials provided by your Program Support representative.
    • Maintain open, friendly, and frequent communication with the Program Support representative assigned to assist in Program/Contest implementation.
    • Ensure students are prepared (rehearsed presentation, technology working, materials proofed, professional dress, etc.) for key activities with the DHS CP3 representatives.
      Review student-generated Program/Contest materials and provide feedback and guidance prior to Program submission.
    • Ensure students complete all required Program/Contest elements for the Final Portfolio submission.
    • Ensure students have read official contest rules, reviewed all program documents and confirmed understanding of Program/Contest deadlines.
    • Ensure students adhere to all DHS CP3 logo usage guidelines as it pertains to the I2P Program.
    • Ensure students accurately and in a timely fashion complete status reports and metrics reporting.
    • Confirm students accurately complete the student operational budget tracking process. This includes providing the Program Support representative with an expense log, all corresponding receipts, and the return any unused funds. Reconciled budgets and reimbursements must be received within 30 days of the submission deadline.
    • If selected as a Program/Contest finalist, ensure at least three (3) students from the team are available to travel to Washington, DC to be coached and present their project to as part of the final presentation event.

    You acknowledge that the Program/Contest is implemented in conjunction with a Program/Contest Sponsor, which may include profit, non-profit or governmental entities or organizations. You understand and agree that all students must register for the Program/Contest and sign a Participation Agreement to participate in the Program/Contest. You also understand and agree that at least one member of the team must be a U.S. citizen if they intend to compete in the contest/prize challenge per requirements of Challenge.gov.

    The Participation Agreement provides in part that the Program/Contest Sponsor has the right to use the Program submissions and any related intellectual property.

    In consideration of Program/Contest Sponsor’s support for the Program/Contest at your school, you represent and agree that the school does not have any rights in the Program/Contest submissions, which would prevent or conflict with the Program Sponsor’s use of those materials. You represent that you are fully aware of the risks and hazards inherent in participating in the Program/Contest and hereby elect voluntarily to participate in the Program/Contest. You hereby voluntarily assume all risk of loss, damage, or injury that you may sustain, and any damage to property, arising directly or indirectly as a result of the Program/Contest. You are responsible for the negligent or willful acts or omissions of your employees, students, and agents when acting under your direction and supervision. 

    We wish to confirm with you that your participation in the Program/Contest involves a cooperative, collaborative relationship between the Program/Contest Sponsor and your school. We do not have an employment, independent contractor or other formal relationship other than the terms of this letter agreement, and agree that either you, the Program/Contest Sponsor may cancel your participation in the Program/Contest by providing notification within thirty (30) days of Program/Contest end.
