  • Description

    Ursuline Sisters Mission's Scholars Program is focused on assisting students reach their education and career goals and break the cycle of generational poverty. The program has four main components: scholar support and educational advocacy, financial assistance, personal and professional development opportunities, and mentorship connection.

    Eligibility

    • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or trade school or will enroll in the upcoming semester
    • Enrolled in a school that is within 50 miles of the Youngstown/Ashtabula area.
    • Income below 200% of the poverty level
    • Student/academic program provides a certification or degree upon completion
    • Enrolled at least part-time (12 credit hours)
    • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 if currently enrolled High School GPA of 2.5 if in first semester of college and graduated within the last 2 years

    Student Requirements Once Enrolled

    • Maintain contact/meet with Scholars Coordinator at mutually agreed upon times
    • Maintain contact with mentor and/or educational supports
    • Maintain GPA of at least 2.0
    • Attend approved workshops/trainings offered by the program or by an outside agency
    • At application and at the end of each semester provide: Current transcripts Financial aid and loan information
    • Class schedule for next semester
    • Any other requested information to verify continued eligibility

  • The purpose/role of the Scholars program is to help each Scholar in our program manage the academic and financial aspects of completing post-secondary education so they can graduate ready for employment. Iunderstand if I am selected for the program, I will be required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and remain in good academic standing within my program; attend all mandatory workshops, trainings, and events for Scholars; keep program staff and my mentor informed of my academic progress as well as changes in my class schedule, work schedule, living arrangements, and finances; and obey all the rules and regulations of the university/college/technical school. Iunderstand that if selected, I will be required to upload my class schedule, transcripts/grades, financial aid and loan information, and job information every semester. I understand that will be required to meet with the Scholars Program Coordinator at a mutually agreed upon time to report on progress. Meetings with the Program Director may occur as needed to discuss academic and financial status. Further, I understand I will be required to respond to program staff and mentors in a timely manner, and will communicate with my mentor at the agreed upon times/frequency. I understand that if chosen for the program, it is my responsibility to communicate all changes and needs to the program coordinator or program director. Failure to respond to messages or to keep program coordinator/program director/mentor informed can result in dismissal from the program.

    In order to be considered, applications MUST include:

    • A copy of your FAFSA or SAR including the last page with loan totals
    • Class transcript showing GPA
    • Class schedule. 

    All completed applications will be reviewed by the program staff and a short interview scheduled.
