Immediate aftercare: second skin
1. Leave second skin on for 3-5 days.
2. Total healing time is 14 days, continue aftercare once you remove the second skin for the remainder of the healing period.
Tips:
- Plasma, ink, and blood are normal to be under the second skin.
- You can shower with the second skin, but do not soak, take a bath, or submerge in water. If water gets under the second skin, take it off immediately.
- Take off in the shower under hot water and remove by pulling to the side. Do not rip it off (this will hurt more and could impact the quality of healing)
- Some people are allergic to adhesives. Keep an eye on your tattoo and remove the second skin if rash or irritation occurs.
Immediate Aftercare: plastic wrap
1. Leave tattoo covered or wrapped for about 2 hours (bleeding, plasma, and redness is normal)
2. Wash hands with soap every time before touching the tattoo
3. Use an unscented antibacterial soap to gently wash tattoo. Lather soap and thoroughly rinse (do not place tattoo directly under running water, just splash with hands) with room temp water
4. Let tattoo air dry or pat dry with a clean paper towel (never use a bath towel)
5. Apply a thin layer of ointment, Aquafor or A&D (do not use lotion until tattoo is fully healed)
Continued aftercare:
• repeat steps 2-5 three times a day for the next 14 days (morning, night, and after any physical/outside activity)
• once initial wrap is taken off, do not cover tattoo with plastic wrap or bandaids
• avoid scrubbing, scratching, or picking at tattoo
• you may apply ointment anytime the tattoo is feeling or looking dry but avoid over moisturizing thetattoo, just a thin layer so the tattoo appears shiny
• brief showers are okay but avoid submerging of any kind (baths, pools, etc.)
• avoid using any scented or colored products such as perfume, lotion, skincare products near the tattoo (after 14 days you can continue to use the products as normal)
• avoid direct sun during healing and after 14 days apply sunscreen to tattoo to prevent fading
• redness, scabbing, peeling, slight swelling, itchiness, and dryness are normal, please refrain from touching the tattoo other than washing it
• if you are experiencing excessive pain, swelling, pus, continued bleeding, or extreme hotness of the tattoo please contact a medical professional
Touch ups are available but fixing any issues as a result of improper aftercare will be at your expense
