  • Join the JF&CS Young Professionals and Family Volunteer Leaders on Sunday, September 11, 2022 for Mitzvah Day at 1:30pm. Young professionals (22-35 years old) and families will gather at multiple volunteer sites throughout Atlanta for a day of service. 

    From gardening and park clean ups to restocking the JF&CS food pantry, you can make a difference in our wonderful city! We look forward to seeing you there!

    Campbellton Community Garden  
    In partnership with: Repair the World  
    1597 Campbellton Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30311 

    Description: The Aglana "Grows a lot" program takes vacant lots in areas where fresh and affordable food is harder to obtain and turns the lot into an urban garden, urban farm, or food forest. Join us at Campbellton Community Garden for an afternoon of weeding, mulching, and harvesting. Tools and gloves will be provided, please bring your own water, masks and sunscreen. Closed-toe shoes are recommended!   
     
    Concrete Jungle – Doghead Farms Picking  
    In partnership with: Moishe House  
    Doghead Farms - Sylvan Hills, Birch St SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 
     
    Description: "Concrete Jungle transforms overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. Doghead Farm is one of their small urban farms in Southwest Atlanta that produces vegetables each year to donate, providing pantries and shelters with big, nutritious harvests. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and bring a reusable water bottle, bug spray, snacks, and sunscreen.     
    Concrete Jungle COVID-19 Safety Measures: Masks are optional for volunteers who are fully vaccinated, but encouraged if social distancing is not possible during harvest. We ask volunteers who have traveled or may have been exposed to not volunteer until they receive a negative test result. 
     
    Atlanta Community Food Bank

    Description: Atlanta Community Food Bank is an extension of Feeding America. Packaging food for those in need, their mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. ACFB works with more than 700 nonprofit partners to distribute over 65 million meals across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Partnering with NextGen, volunteers will assist in food packaging for those in need.

    Description: Families will build their own lemonade stand to raise funds for the JF&CS program, AURA (Atlanta Ukrainian Evacuee Relief Assistance). Donations will help JF&CS continue supporting Ukrainian evacuees who are living in the Atlanta metro area. Participants will receive a digital guide with tips and tricks for creating a successful lemonade stand in their community.

    Description: The JF&CS Kosher Food Pantry is an essential program allowing those in need to access shelf stable food and fresh produce. It has grown over 300% and expanded our non-kosher items to respond to the increased need of households in 56 different Atlanta zip codes during the ongoing pandemic. Families will meet at Kroger (4498 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338) to shop for needed food items. Families are welcome to purchase food items with their own funds (approx. $20-25) or with a gift card provided at the time of check-in. After shopping, families will deliver food to the pantry before stocking items and learning about food insecurity. The Giving Garden will also be open for families to visit and help with garden maintenance.

    Description: The JF&CS Kosher Food Pantry is an essential program allowing those in need to access shelf stable food and fresh produce. It has grown over 300% and expanded our non-kosher items to respond to the increased need of households in 56 different Atlanta zip codes during the ongoing pandemic. Families will fill jars with dry soup ingredients and attach a recipe card so Food Pantry clients can bring home a ready-to-make meal. The Giving Garden will be open for families to visit and help with garden maintenance.
     
    WAITLIST - Rosh Hashanah Gift Bags for Holocaust Survivors 
    4549 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. Atlanta, GA 30338 

    Description: JF&CS Aviv Older Adult Services offers a host of services and social events for Holocaust Survivors and their families. Café Europa is a monthly luncheon for Survivors with delicious food, entertainment, and company. Families will assemble gift bags with treats and crafts that will be distributed to Holocaust Survivors celebrating Rosh Hashanah at the September Café Europa event. The Giving Garden will be open for families to visit and help with garden maintenance.

  • Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta (“JF&CS”) Waiver of Liability

    Please read the following carefully. By registering for this event, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

    I wish to participate in the JF&CS Mitzvah Day event and hereby acknowledge that said agency is making good faith efforts to protect the public as well myself as a participant. To this extent, I agree to follow Center of Disease Control (CDC) and local health district guidelines and JF&CS’s policies and procedures for social distancing to reduce the spread of Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19. This will require me to maintain six (6) feet of distance between myself, volunteers, and patrons of the agency as much as possible. This procedure will be required for visitor-to-visitor contact as well to limit exposure.

    I agree to utilize surgical masks or wear an acceptable mask (as defined by the CDC or other medical authority) to reduce the risk of exposure to myself and others. I agree to wash or sanitize my hands after using the restroom, sneezing, and coughing, and before eating or preparing meals or sundries for distribution, and will properly wear and utilize sterile gloves if needed.

    I agree that I will not attend Mitzvah Day in person if I am experiencing any symptoms of illness such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, nor have otherwise exhibited such symptoms in the fourteen days prior to the event. I will not attend Mitzvah Day in person if I am under quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19 nor if I have tested positive for the virus within ten days of the event even if asymptomatic. If I develop these symptoms or have otherwise exhibited such symptoms in the last ten days, I agree that I will not attend Mitzvah Day in-person.

    I understand that there is no direct medical health coverage afforded to me during my relationship with JF&CS. JF&CS is not responsible for any potential exposure to COVID-19, even if resulting from the negligence of JF&CS or its officers, directors, employees or agents. I fully understand and appreciate the risks that are inherent to my participant activities. I hereby assume the risk of bodily injury, illness, death, medical treatment and property damage resulting from my participant activities, even if resulting from the negligence of JF&CS or its officers, directors, employees or agents.

    I hereby release, discharge and agree to indemnify and hold JF&CS harmless from, and waive on behalf of myself and my heirs and personal representatives and any minors I am responsible for who participate with me, any and all causes of action, claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses and compensation for damage or loss to myself and/or property that may be caused by any act, or failure to act of JF&CS, or that may otherwise arise in any way in connection with any voluntary activities with, or for JF&CS. I understand that this release discharges JF&CS from any liability or claim that I or my heirs, personal representatives or minors I am responsible for may have against JF&CS with respect to any bodily injury, illness, death, medical treatment, or property damage that may arise from or in connection with my participant activities. This liability waiver and release extends to JF&CS together with all of its officers, directors, affiliates, employees and agents. I agree that this release will be governed by Georgia law and that the exclusive venue for any dispute arising from this release will be a court of competent jurisdiction sitting in Atlanta, Georgia. By registering for Mitzvah Day I agree to comply with the written instructions above. Failure to comply with these written instructions or verbal instructions from staff may result in my participant privileges being revoked and I may be asked to leave the premises.
