Participants are requested to order their own materials before the start of the class. Prices for books, listed below, do not include tax or shipping. Cheaper prices may be found by buying used books or by searching online, including Amazon. Please contact the leaders with any questions. Lectio: God The Trinity Thursdays 8:30am-10:00am Sept. 8- Nov. 3 at Holy Family St. Agnes Library Leader: Marian Freund (meafreund@gmail.com or 920-923-1175)/ Misconceptions about God abound, even among Christians, and these misconceptions can become obstacles in our relationship with God. Join Augustine Institute Assistant Professor Dr. Elizabeth Klein for a careful study of Scripture that will lead you to a deeper and clearer awareness of who God is, equipping you to share this truth with others. Starting in the Old Testament, Dr. Klein presents what God says about himself at various points in salvation history, and how he revels to Israel that “the Lord is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4). Moving to the New Testament, Dr. Klein shows how this one God then reveals himself as three. Along the way you’ll get answers to questions such as, How can God be transcendent and personal? If God is one, how can Jesus be God? What does it mean that “God is love” (1 John 4:8)? Why is the doctrine of the trinity the central mystery of our faith when the word “Trinity” never appears in the Bible? Produced from our state-of-the-art studios, this dynamic program combines an in-depth biblical study with insightful questions, an explanation of common misunderstandings regarding God, and personal reflections that will strengthen your faith in the one true God, who is a communion of three Divine Persons. The Our Father: A Short Course with Dr. Ben Akers Thursdays 8:30am-10:00am Nov. 10 - Dec. 22 (excl. Nov. 24) at Holy Family St. Agnes Library Leader: Marian Freund (meafreund@gmail.com or 920-923-1175)/ When asked what they should say in prayer the Lord gives his disciples the “Our Father.” This prayer is considered a gift from the Lord and one that we should especially turn to in times of crisis. This series will go line by line through the prayer highlighting what it meant to Jesus’ first century audience and what it means for us today. No materials needed. Join us to learn the basic Catholic principles for reading Scripture and to survey the broad outlines of the books of the Bible and their place in the story of salvation. Participants are strongly encouraged to purchase the workbook and the book, "A Father Who Keeps His Promises" by Scott Hahn. *Participants will also need a Catholic study Bible and a copy of the Catechism Of The Catholic Church.

In David the King, Bishop Barron helps us to understand this pivotal figure in light of the first king and the King of kings.

Exploring the Sunday Readings Tuesdays 9:30–11:15am at Sacred Heart Church Hospitality Room Leader: Helen Hiemerl (poetlassie@yahoo.com)/ This is a Bible Study for looking at the upcoming Sunday Readings. Each week will use the investigations and comments of bible scholars to learn the significant insights in each set of Sunday readings. We will further discuss and share how these readings apply to us and add enrichment to our lives. A great way to prepare for Sunday Mass! Materials provided on the first day of class.

Be Transformed: The Healing Power of the Sacraments Tuesdays: September 20, 2022 – November 15, 2022 6:30–8:00pm at Holy Family Fireside Room Leader: Dawn Meyer (jobbagee@aol.com or 920-517-7557)/ In Be Transformed, you’ll discover how each Sacrament can help you heal from wounds that can impede your relationships and sense of self-worth. Be Transformed offers all of the tools you need for a fresh understanding of the Sacraments, including reflection questions, scripture meditations, prayers, and inspiring stories. You’ll come away hungry for the Sacraments in a way you never knew possible.

Understanding the Scriptures Wednesdays: September 7, 2022 – November 30, 2022 (excluding November 23)6:30–7:30pm at Holy Family South Hall Leader: Luke Townsend (ldtownsend27@marianuniversity.edu or 828-612-9650)/ The class will be a survey of key texts from the Old and New Testaments. We will approach the text from more of an academic perspective using the historical theological methodology of the Quadriga, which are the four senses of Scripture taught by the Church Fathers. Class time will be a mixture of lecture on background information and interpretation-focused discussion. *Catholic Bible needed.

The Turning Point: Eight Encounters with Jesus That Will Change Your Life: by Allen Hunt Fridays: September 2, 2022 – November 11, 2022 (excluding September 16 and October 21)7:00–8:30pm at Sacred Heart Victory Center Leader: Michael Zaccaria (yanksfan0617z@gmail.com or 732-207-0921)/ Welcome to the Gospel of John—a whole new way to encounter Jesus This study will introduce you to people and stories you won't meet or find anywhere else in the Bible. In John's Gospel, you will meet the woman at the well; a man named Nicodemus; the woman caught in adultery; and Lazarus, the friend Jesus raised from the dead. You'll read stories about Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana, Jesus washing the feet of His disciples, and Peter's marvelous redemption after he denies Jesus three times. In this study, as you focus on eight people who encounter Jesus in John's Gospel, your goal will be to personally meet Jesus yourself—to discover that He is your one true spiritual home and to develop a more significant relationship with Him in your everyday life.

God Is Near Us: The Eucharist, The Heart of Life Saturdays: September 24, 2022 – November 19, 2022 (excluding October 1 and 22)10:00-11:00am at PBVM Church and Basement Leader: Fr. Michael Malucha (michaelm@hffdl.org or 920-921-0580)/“In the fundamental prayer of the Church, the Eucharist, the heart of our life is not merely expressed but is realized day after day. At the most profound level, the Eucharist has to do with Christ alone. He prays for us; he puts his prayer on our lips, for only he can say: This is my Body – This is my Blood” (119.) Such words from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, written while yet Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, invite us to encounter the Lord who comes to meet us in reality. By taking Ratzinger as our teacher, we can find in his book - a collection of homilies, addresses, and articles – what is needed to live, to pray the Holy Mass and to worship the Eucharistic Heart of our Lord.

Presenter Jeff Cavins explores what Paul’s letter to the Ephesians tells us about the nature of the Church—as a body, a household, a mystery, a communion, a bride, and an army.
