Please note that this funding is NOT intended for the purchase and/or maintenance of instruments, tuition, room & board, and/or other curricular-related materials.
Funding will be determined by the Dean of the School of Music in consultation with the music faculty.
This funding is considered a student cash award and, as such, may be considered taxable income by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The University must report cash awards paid to students. For students receiving $600 or more from the University, a tax form 1099-MISC will be issued at the end of the applicable tax year. Therefore, the award recipients should expect to receive the 1099-MISC. Students who accept the award will need to complete paperwork for this process. International students may have additional required paperwork.
Recipients of this award must submit a one-page report no later than two weeks after the project ends, confirming the funds' use as described in the original proposal. This report should detail how the award funding contributed to the student's professional development, and it may include a summary of the project, the skills and knowledge the student gained, and how they plan to apply these in the future. Additionally, students must provide receipts showing the use of the funds as originally proposed. Any changes to the use of the requested funds must be approved in advance by the Dean of the School of Music. If the award recipient does not use the funds or uses them differently than initially requested, they will be required to return the funds to the School of Music.
Students may submit more than one request. However, not all submissions may be funded.
