Little Paws Hamster Rescue Adoption Application & Contract

This contract details the understandings, expectations and responsibilities of the adopter set forth by Little Paws Hamster Rescue for the adoption of animals brought into the care of the rescue. If the terms of agreement are violated by the adopter, Little Paws Hamster Rescue will work in collaboration with Animal Welfare and the courts of Ontario to have the rats returned alive to Little Paws Hamster Rescue.

The enclosed contract is between Little Paws Hamster Rescue and First Name* Last Name*.

The adopter agrees to return the pet/pets to Little Paws Hamster Rescue if they are no longer able to provide adequate care for the animals. Pets must never be released into the wild, fed to another animal, sold as food or re-homed. Initial below. *

Adopter must provide pet with adequate indoor shelter at appropriate temperatures. They must not be kept at extreme temperatures. Initial below.*

Adopter must provide unlimited daily fresh water. If the adopter chooses to use water bottles, the water must be changed daily. If the adopter chooses to use a water bowl, the water must be changed two (2) times per day. Initial below. *

Adopter must provide adequate professional veterinary care as needed for the pets at their own expense. If a pet is sick or passes away, the adopter must inform Little Paws Hamster Rescue of the illness or death within 48 hours. Initial below. *

Adopter agrees to restrict the use of candles, incense, aroma diffusers and air fresheners in the rooms where the pets sleep, play and hangout. Initial below. *

Little Paws Hamster Rescue understands that injuries happen and that pets can sometimes be unpredictable. The adopter must agree to provide the pets with adequate medical care from a licensed veterinarian within an acceptable timeframe. Initial below. *

Adopter must never engage in home euthanasia practises, including but not limited to “stunning”, carbon dioxide poisoning, suffocation or any type of bodily injury. Euthanasia must be provided by a certified veterinary practise. Initial below. *

The adopter agrees to never use any adopted pets for breeding. The adopter agrees to never use any adopted pets as food for other animals. The adopter agrees to never use any adopted pets for experiments, money making or for any use beyond that of a loved member of your family. Initial below. *

Adopter must ensure safety of the pets at all times, including when they are in the presence of other pets, children, family members, friends and strangers. Initial below. *

Adopter must agree to potential drop-by visitations by Little Paws Hamster Rescue to check on the welfare of the animals. Little Paws Hamster Rescue will respect the adopter's privacy and new life with their new family members but reserves the right to conduct inspections if they feel it is necessary. Initial below. *

Little Paws Hamster Rescue reserves the rights to remove the pets from the home if the pet or pets are in need of medical attention and the adopting party does not make a valid effort to retrieve medical care or medication from a veterinarian or from Little Paws Hamster Rescue. Little Paws Hamster Rescue works in conjunction with Animal Welfare. Initial below. *

Adopter agrees to accept follow-up inquiries from Little Paws Hamster Rescue and respond to them in a timely manner. Initial below. *

In the event that the pet is lost, I (the adopter) agree to make every reasonable effort to locate the pet alive and well. I will not use kill traps and I will leave out food and water for the pet until it can be relocated. If the pet is found by another member of the community or is placed with the Humane Society, I will contact Little Paws Hamster Rescue immediately. Initial below. *

I understand that these pets were rescued and that their behaviour, temperament and overall health cannot be guaranteed. If I am bit, I will not blame the pet and will leave the pet safely in their cage until such time when I can calmly see them again. Initial below. *

I will never physically discipline the pet for any perceived misbehaviour or bite. I understand that the pet may bite through the cage bars and will make every effort to keep the fingers of family members, and libs of pets safe from curious or nibbling pets. Initial below. *

The adoption fee for Little Paws Hamster Rescue fluctuates based on pet. Adoption fees are non-refundable and tax receipts for adoption fees will not be issued.

Little Paws Hamster Rescue cannot guarantee the temperament, behaviour or genetic health of any of the pets in their care. Many of these pets have come from terrible living conditions and may require patience, love and understanding as they learn to trust humans.

Any pets with parasites have been treated with Revolution and treated for other illnesses as needed but have not been tested for any genetic ailments. Refunds will only be issued for chronic illnesses that arise within 30 days of adoption (E.g. Mammary lumps, testicular cancer, etc)
