• Rank Prize New Lecturer Grant 2022

  • Up to £25,000 is available to fund the direct costs of research.

    This annual research grant is offered in the areas of human nutrition, animal nutrition (as distinct from animal husbandry), and crop science to help postdoctoral scientists establish their careers as independent investigators.

    The grant is available to newly appointed lecturers, researchers or fellows with their own independent support who are within the first two years of their appointment, typically 3-9 years from their PhD, although allowances will be made for career breaks.  

    Rank Prize will also consider applications from clinicians in an academic clinical post or supported by an appropriate fellowship. 

    The grant cannot be used to fund indirect or overhead costs, or to fund the salary of the grant-holder. 

    The deadline for applications is 23:59 Monday 19 September 2022. Please note incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

    Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by members of Rank Prize's Nutrition Committee on the morning of Thursday 17 November 2022. These interviews will be held in person in London, so applicants must be available to attend on this date.

  • Please submit the following documents as one pdf file in the below order, with the file name surname_NLA 2021.  All documents should be in size 11 font with reasonable margins.

    1. Plan of Investigation (2 pages max.)

    2. CV, including details of any grant funding (2 pages max.)

    3. List of your publications

    4. Signed letter on headed paper from your Head of Department or Director of your research organisation confirming that:

    i) you meet the criteria given in points 3-5 of the Eligibility Criteria document

    i) in the event of the application being successful, full research facilities and support will be provided throughout the period of the research


    iii) (if applicable) should the applicant be without a contract of
    employment extending beyond the period of the proposed grant at the time of application, such a contract will be put in place if the proposal is successful.  N.B. those applicants who may fall within this category should contact the Rank Prize Funds for confirmation of their eligibility prior to the submission of an application

    5. Two letters of support from people who can judge you professionally, signed and on headed paper (1 page each max.)
