Welcome
Hi there! These last few years have been hard. Keeping our families/careers/marriages/country together has been a struggle: exhausting but without any tangible result. Writer Rebecca Barry calls this the “invisible work.” With this project I hope to make some of that work visible. I’m asking people identifying as female (because we still do the majority of caregiving) to share a list of what they have been dealing with since 2019. I choose phrases from each list and stitch the text onto cloth panels. Here’s my list (in no particular order):depression in myself + family, difficult rescue dog, chronic illness & pain, parental health crises, advocating for my trans child, quarantine, career stagnation, fear of COVID, shooting at my kid’s school, sending my oldest off to college, world insanity (Ukraine, systemic racism, January 6, Roe, the Supreme Court, climate change) For me, looking at my list makes me kind of proud: I’m still here! If you are willing to share your list with me (whatever you feel about it) I will be so grateful! You can submit your list anonymously — the survey does not capture your information. You are welcome to pass this on to anyone who might want to be part of the project!
