Membership Chair
The Membership Chair is responsible for directing the Association’s efforts to recruit and retain members. Keys to success include knowledge of the Association, enthusiasm, administrative ability, patience and persistence, along with full cooperation and help from all board members and the Executive Director. The membership chair is not expected to undertake this challenge alone but should enlist others to help whenever possible.
Goals: Increase membership, involvement & enthusiasm for the association. Identify potential leadership.
Responsibilities of the Membership Chair:
Develop and implement an annual membership campaign, recruitment of new members.
Generate new member prospect lists and recruitment opportunities.
Develop retention efforts, including membership education.
Assist the Executive Director or other coordinators in facilitating member communication.
Organize materials that will enhance membership recruitment and retention. Conduct Member Interest Survey and request periodic feedback from members to evaluate needs and effectiveness of current or future programs and goals of the Association.
Know and follow the criteria for various levels of membership.
Form a membership “team” to work the annual membership campaign.
Keep the VMEA officers and Board fully engaged and report regularly on progress and challenges. Serve as the primary contact for new members
Encourage and facilitate member participation in association activities
Contact each new member (by email whenever possible). Cause to have sent a standard welcome letter describing the Association’s structure, activities, and the availability of mentors
Facilitate contact between a new member and a mentor, if a new member requests help
Create and implement ongoing methods for retaining membership
Participate in and attend appropriate local (region), state and national meetings, workshops, and training sessions
