  • The Youth Small Business Program is now accepting applications!

     

     

    Cohort 3 - February 21 – April 25 2023
    Mondays + Wednesdays – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET 

     

     

    Like a beginner’s business school, the Youth Small Business Program can help jump-start your idea and make it a reality. Designed to help young entrepreneurs launch or grow a small business, this 10-week program offers virtual workshops and group mentoring sessions to help you learn fundamental business and financial skills, develop a business plan and build the confidence to implement it.

     

    What are the benefits?

    • Business development: Gain the skills and confidence to develop your idea and launch your business.
    • Networking & Coaching: Network with like-minded individuals and build connections with local entrepreneurs and experienced business professionals.
    • Financing: Participants will be eligible for a $500 grant upon successful completion of the program. You may be eligible to apply for a low-interest small business loan from Rise if you need additional start-up funds.

    Candidates Qualifications

    Applicants for this program should have all the following characteristics:

    • Have a practical idea to start or grow your own for-profit, small business (any size, either full or part time/seasonal opportunities are welcome), and be looking to start this within the next 12 months.
    • Commit to attend all course sessions and submit all assignments.
    • Self-identify as having experienced mental health or addiction challenges.
    • Be between the ages of 16 and 29.
    • Be a resident of Canada.

    Non-binary: A perons who identifies their gender along a gender spectrum, or moving within the gender spectrum. 

    Trans Woman/Female & Trans Man/Male: A person whose gender identity differs from the gender and sex they were assigned at birth.

    Two-Spirit: A term used by some First Nations people to describe the experience of having multiple gendered roles or spirits - the term references the idea of a person having a male and female spirit.

  • 1. Consent to Collection, Use and Disclosure of Your Personal Information by Us We take your privacy very seriously. A full copy of our privacy policy is available upon request or by visiting our website.

    We will need to collect your personal information in order to determine your eligibility for a loan. If you are granted a loan, we will need the information to administer said loan and collect the loan repayments, should you fail to make payments as agreed. The information we collect may include your name, birth date, home address, financial status, bank account details for payments, your business plan and ideas for use of this loan, and medical information about you.
     

    We will use your personal information for the following purposes:
     
    • Process your submitted application;
    • Build relationships, facilitate networking opportunities and match entrepreneurs like you with mentors;
    • Assist with administrative or technical support of your loan and business;
    • Gather opinion and feedback through surveys;
    • Comply with Canadian legal and regulatory requirements;
    • Maintain statistical and record keeping operations.

    Your personal information may be collected, used or disclosed for any of the identified proposes set out above. We will not use or disclose it for other purposes without obtaining additional consent from you.

    Please note that your consent is necessary for us to process your loan application and administer said loan, if granted. You may withdraw your consent at any time upon reasonable written notice, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Please note that the withdrawal of consent will affect our ability to provide you with the products and services that you would like to receive.

    To achieve the identified purposes listed above, your personal information may be shared with third parties such as government or industry agencies, our bank processing your payments, mentors and advisors to your business, credit reporting agencies, insurers, financial products dealers and financial institutions. 

    Sometimes you may be working with a referral agency to help you prepare your business plan and start up your business.
