Requirements
- Current Certificate of Competence from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Gerontology Certificate preferred.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Must have completed TB screening.
- Knowledge of RAI-MDS.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
- Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
Job Description
Clinical Care:
- Assessing and monitoring residents' health conditions.
- Creating and implementing care plans tailored to individual resident needs.
- Administering medications and treatments.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Handling medical emergencies and providing immediate care.
Patient Advocacy:
- Advocating for residents' rights and ensuring they receive proper care and attention.
- Communicating with residents and their families, addressing concerns, and providing emotional support.
Education and Support:
- Educating residents and families about health conditions, medications, and treatments.
- Providing guidance on post-discharge care and lifestyle changes.
- Offering emotional support to residents and families coping with long-term care needs.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintaining accurate and detailed resident records.
- Documenting care plans, treatments, and changes in resident condition.
- Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
Leadership and Management:
- Supervising and delegating tasks to other healthcare staff, such as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or care aides.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to care strategies.
- Overseeing the overall functioning of the nursing unit or department.
Quality Improvement:
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care and safety.
- Implementing best practices and evidence-based care approaches.
- Contributing to policy development and adherence to regulatory standards.
