Please note that the teachers and director decide best placement for the classes and it is possible for dancers to move classes half way through the year. Summer Dance classes are based on the number of students interested.
(Primary) Highland 1: Intro and Foundations
Minimum age of 3. No previous training required. Emphasis is on basic movements and positions, with an introduction to the dances. Dancers can begin competitions when they know 16 PDBs and PDBs & HCs.
(Primary/Beginner) Highland 2: Continued Foundation and Dances
Any age. Previous training is required or dancers are old enough to catch on quickly. This class is aimed for continuing students with emphasis on new steps, full dances, and technique. Focus will be on learning the Fling, the Sword Dance, the Scottish Lilt, and other dances if suitable. Dancers may be in this class for 1-3 years depending on progress.
Beginner/Novice (Highland 3): The Developing Dancer
Dancers are continuing to learn new dances and steps. The focus is on Fling, Sword, Lilt, S.T and Flora.
Novice/Intermediate (Highland 4): Advanced Pre-Premier
Any age. Having reached or will be soon reaching the Novice level is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students who know the 5 basic dances as well as 2-3 other dancers. Emphasis is on technique for previously learned full dances and learning new steps and dances to prepare them for more advanced classes.
Premier
Any age. Having reached or soon to be reaching the Premier level is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students, with emphasis on technique for previously learned full dances. Most dancers in this class are attending competitions on a regular and semi-regular basis, and are training for provincials.
Premier 1 and Premier 2
This class is aimed for competitive students only and is mandatory for those doing competitions and championships. An emphasis is placed on the competition dances. Students are selected to be in this class.
Adult Highland
This class is for anyone over the age of 18 years who is not currently competing. No prior dance experience needed. This class will begin with basic positions and movements paired with strengthening and conditioning, and build into jumping, steps, and dances overtime.
Choreography
For any dancer in the Highland 4 and above classes. This class runs on a weekly basis in preparation for Dance Quest (at the teacher's discretion), Highland competitions which have choreography, and this class will be used when recital is approaching.
Time & Tide (TnT)
Time and Tide is a choreography group wherein dancers are selected to be a member of this performance team. There is no cost to this class as the director is dancing as well and it is a team effort in choreographing.
Summer Dance
Summer dance is open to all dancers. Dancers who plan on competing in the summer months must do summer dance or schedule alternative dance lessons if needed. Summer dance classes are based off of who wishes to dance in the summer and class times are again based off of the number of dancers.
