McDonald's Shift Change Guidelines
From time to time, life happens and we can't come into our rostered shifts. At Macca's we are super flexible with allowing you to change your shifts, however, there are some restrictions.
Overview
This form is to be used to request a fellow Crew Member to cover a rostered shift. This form MUST be filled out at minimum 4 hours prior to the commencement of the shift
Rationale
The purpose of these guidelines are to provide Crew Members and Managers with a framework for managing employee absences.
Manager Obligations
A manager will be obliged to cover your shift if you are sick or there are exceptional circumstances surrounding your absence. If this applies to you, stop filling out this form and call the store on (03) 9367 9055
Medical Certificates
In the event that you are sick, you are entitled to receive 2 days off in a year without providing the store with a medical certificate. You will need to provide a medical certificate any time you call in sick after these initial 2 instances. The store may also accept a Statutory Declaration stating that you were unable to attend your shift due to exceptional circumstances.
Form Limitations
This form is only to request a change for one shift. If you're requesting multiple shift changes, or you are swapping your shift with another Crew Member, you will be required to complete multiple forms.
Denial of Shift Swaps
This form is treated as a request for a shift change. This means that from time to time, your shift change request may be denied. There are multiple reasons your shift may be denied, including but not limited to:
- You have requested an excessive amount of shift swaps. If you require a reduced amount of hours or you're consistently unavailable for certain times, please create an availability request through myJob
- The Crew Member you have elected to cover your shift is not of equal or greater proficiency. Rosters are created with proficiency in mind, we need to ensure that the strength in the restaurant is consistent with or better than the original roster.
- The Crew Member covering your shift will have over 5 shifts if they take your shift and have not requested to remove one of their own shifts. This is a legal restriction as we cannot legally allow any Crew Member to work more than 5 shifts in a week.
- There is a 1+ hour overlap or gap between your two shifts. The roster is created with consideration for breaks and shift times, if there is too long or too little between the shifts, this is a significant change to the roster and can’t be facilitated without significant changes.
- You have requested to change your shift too soon before the start of your shift. The minimum notice period for Shift Change Requests is 4 hours. This is to give time for the store to review your request and to give you time to find another Crew Member to replace your shift if your request is denied.
