  • RULES/ETIQUETTE/GUIDELINES FOR MEMBERS

  • 1. No one is allowed to ONLY do protection at practice. You must do at at a minimum obedience and tracking is strongly encouraged. No bitework without obedience.

    2. On Saturdays, those who track will be put at the top of the list on our board, regardless of whether or not someone who didn't track gets to the field first.

    3. Our Helpers will be able to have their dogs worked first or at anytime during training that they prefer. It is unfair for them to work all of our dogs, only to be exhausted at the end with few there to watch and support them.

    4. It is expected that you will arrive for tracking and stay through the end of protection (aka the last dog worked). Some of us may have obligations but we make every effort to stick around and support our fellow team members while they train, your helpers and training directors rarely leave early; you are expected to do the same.

    5. With that in mind, here is a general schedule. It will vary during the year due to weather and sunrise.

    a. Tracking - Saturdays- 7:30am

    b. Obedience - Saturday about 9am

    c. Protection - after obedience

    6. Pay attention and ask questions about what is going on. Socialization is ok when nothing is happening or when we're finished, but please watch and learn while others are working. Try to help when possible. New people, bring pens and paper so that you can write things down and formulate a plan to show you are serious.

    7. No talking while someone is filming. If you want to discuss something, move away from the person filming. We like to post videos but are reluctant to do so when we hear you talking in the background of them.

    8.  Bring essential supplies:

    a. water for your dog and drinks for yourself

    b. treats your dog really likes such as cubed turkey or ham or hotdogs or string cheese or liver pieces etc. Something that will not crumble & leave pieces on the field that will distract other dogs.

    c. leashes, collars, flat collar or harness for bitework, 6 foot & 15 foot long line, etc.

    d. a crate is required for your dog when not actively in training/airing out.

    e. bug spray/sunscreen

    f. Poop bags for your dogs

    g. any other training aids that you find useful

**If you forget something, everyone is always willing to share and help out, but please try to have the bare essentials with you.

    9. Jump in to help unload, set up & load up field equipment. The quicker we get things set up and broken down, the more efficient we will be. We have an a-frame and a jump that will be set up each Saturday that there is a demand for it.

    10. Please be responsible and clean up after yourself and your dog(s). We are always guests on the fields we use and would like to continue to be welcome wherever we go.

    11. If you have time, please volunteer to help organize and assist with the planning and execution of our upcoming events and seminars.

    12. Thank your helper. They really work hard to help us with our dogs.

    13. Lastly, have a great time with your dog! After all, this is a sport/hobby and should be fun! We have a great group of people and dogs and some of you don't know how truly lucky we are. Let's keep the good vibe going and make some great progress this year!!
