    Service to the Church
  • As part of the Confirmation process, you are required to do service in various areas, one of which is involvement in parish life and ministries.  This service could be as a helper in a Faith Formation Classroom, altar serving, or helping with liturgies and other events throughout the year (for example, Easter Sunrise Mass, Palm Sunday, Stations of the Cross, or Christmas Mass).  You must do this type of service twice over the course of the two-year process and each time needs to be at least 2 hours of service.  Please read the Scripture passage and YOUCAT selection below before you complete your service.  After you have completed the service, go back and re-read the selections and answer the questions below.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)

“A lay person … shares in the priestly ministry of Christ (the universal priesthood)…  He supports the life of the Church, for instance, by becoming a lector or an extraordinary minister, by volunteering as a group leader, or by serving on church committees and councils (for example, the parish council or the board of directors of an institution).  Young people especially should give serious thought to the question of what place God might want them to have in the Church.”  (YOUCAT 139)
