Volleyball Australia: Disability Participation Working Group (VADPWG)
Volleyball Australia (VA) in partnership with its disability community stakeholders wishes to introduce a framework and associated actions to enable VA to engage and collaborate with the disability community, and provide oversight of and support for the production of participation opportunities for the disability community, including at the high performance level.
It is therefore proposed by the VA Board that the Disability Participation Working Group be established under this Scope and Terms of Reference.
1. Scope
To provide VA engagement with and oversight of the production of participation opportunities for the disability community, including at the high performance level, and to identify opportunities for VA to provide operational support to the production of disability participation opportunities. The working group will assist VA to support the creation of greater opportunities for the inclusion of people with disabilities in participating at all levels from grassroots to high-performance programs in volleyball.
2. Terms of Reference
To provide transparent direction and technical advice to VA with respect to all matters relating to the provision of participation opportunities for the disability community, including assisting with the operational provision of such participation opportunities.
The working group will perform the following key duties:
a. To provide a forum for communication and collaboration between VA and disability community stakeholders.
b. To identify open and transparent processes to facilitate engagement and participation in disability programs and activities within Australia.
c. To assist in the development of operational policies and actions in support of Disability Athletes, the Officials and Coaches in Australia, including in relation to selection criteria for athletes, officials and coaches.
d. To identify opportunities for VA to provide operational support of the production of disability participation opportunities, including in relation to event management, branding, sponsorship and promotion.
e. To discuss and investigate the feasibility of the development of a high performance program for the disability community.
f. Perform such additional tasks as may be assigned to the Committee by the VA Board or Volleyball Australia staff.
3. Structure
a. The working group is made up of
1. Chairperson appointed by the VA Board
2. Up to three ordinary members, appointed by the VA Board
3. One independent expert, appointed by the VA Board
4. One VA Appointed Staff Member (Secretariat), appointed by the VA CEO
b. The term of the working group will be determined by the VA Board.
c. The Chair appointment will be undertaken by the VA Board in consultation with the VA CEO.
d. Positions will be filled following an open Expression of Interest process where the VA Board will appoint members based on the skills, experience, and diversity requirements for an initial period of 12 months.
e. At the discretion of the working group, other experts may be consulted to act as advisors to the working group.
f. The working group will meet on a regular basis with at least 4 meetings per year
g. The agenda of each meeting will be approved by the Chairperson. VA staff will circulate the agenda and all meeting notes.
h. The working group will be required to submit a progress report and any relevant advice to the VA Board at least once per year.
