Requirements for Volunteers
Our Lady of the Snow is dedicated to the children and families of the parish. Perspective volunteers should be faithful Catholics. They must agree to a Background check by the Diocese and participate in the VIRTUS training session for the Protection of Children. They also receive training through diocesan provided classes. All training is designed to protect our young people.
Virtus Class
All adults working with minors in our program are required to one-time 2-3 hour Virtus Training course relating to the safety and protection of children through the DRVC. We sometimes offer this course at OLS. To sign up for a course go to Virtus Online and select Diocese of Rockville Centre as your organization from the drop-down menu. Then follow the steps to register and sign up for a class near you. Some of the classes are currently offered virtually. Once you take the class, you do not have to take it again, however, you are required to read monthly articles on the Virtus website to stay current.
Returning Volunteers: Please check your VIRTUS account to be sure you are up-to-date on the articles. If you fall behind your status will be deactivated by the DRVC Office for the Protection of Children and Young Adults, and you will have to contact them to be reinstated as a Volunteer.
