
Class 4A-5A Indoor Track and Field
Mustang Indoor Track & Field (ITF) is classified as a Winter Sport by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). Pre-season conditioning begins in mid-November, with the first meet of the season generally scheduled for the first weekend in December. Preseason conditioning and practices are weekdays immediately after school. All ITF meets are at the Birmingham Crossplex (one of the two premiere indoor track & field complexes in the US and host to SoCon, SEC, & NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships), which is about 1 1/2 hours from the school. Most varsity meets are held on Saturdays. The first day of practice will be November 17, 2025.
The following events are offered for competition in ITF: 60m, 60m Hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4X200m Relay Team, 4X400m Relay Team, 4X800m Relay Team, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put/Weight Toss
Indoor Train-Only Option
The indoor train-only option allows the athletes to condition during their off-season. Athletes will train three days a week during the indoor season.
Outdoor Track and Field Class 4A Section 3
Mustang Outdoor Track & Field (OTF) is classified as a Spring Sport by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). Preseason begins in mid-February, with the first meet of the season generally scheduled for the last weekend in February or the first weekend in March. Preseason conditioning and practices are weekdays immediately after school. Madison Academy athletes compete in 6 meets plus the Metro, Sectional, and AHSAA State Championship meet. The Metro and Sectional Championship meets are usually on weekdays. The first day of official practice will be February 17, 2026.
The following events are offered for competition in OTF: 100m, 110m/110m Hurdles, 200m, 300m Hurdles, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4X100m Relay Team, 4X400m Relay Team, 4X800m Relay Team, Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Javelin, and Discus.
