The Daily Tar Heel is hiring Editorial Board members, columnists and cartoonists to work for the Opinion Desk. No newsroom or opinion writing experience is required – the DTH is a learning newsroom! Editorial Board Member
As a member of the Editorial Board, you will write and contribute to editorials, attend weekly meetings and pitch story ideas. You are able to pitch your own story ideas or, alternatively, be assigned a story.
Columnist
As a columnist, you will write and turn in columns on a set schedule. You will choose your beat and pitch stories you wish to write. Some beats we’re interested in this year: local housing/development, civics, education in Chapel Hill/Orange County, environment/climate, movie/music critic, advice.
Cartoonist
As a cartoonist, you will create fun, satirical or informative graphics for our print issues. In the past, we've had cartoons about COVID-19, Student Body President candidates or fun depictions of student life. You will have freedom to create pieces that represent your vision and/or opinion and may be assigned cartoons on occasion/as needed for print.
