REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT: Yachts should be equipped with solar or wind generators to reduce generator use. Encourage guests to sleep with hatches open rather than run the generator all night. Reduce noise and light pollution (underwater lights, deck lights etc). Chefs incorporate one vegetarian dish in their menu.
REUSABLE ITEMS / REDUCE PLASTICS: Use reusable shopping bags when provisioning. Yachts should be equipped with reusable water bottles, mugs and reusable straws. Use filtered water from their RO system, not single use water bottles. Recycle with available programs.
CHEMICALS AND OIL: Ask that guests use - mineral sunblock whose active ingredients are simply non-nano zinc and/or titanium. Wear rashguards to reduce sunblock usage. Use eco friendly cleaners (soaps in galley/ heads and for deck wash). Use a bilge diaper to reduce any oil spills. Dispose of oil properly.
SOURCE SUSTAINABLE FOODS: Use an ice maker rather than purchase ice everyday. Learn which local and store-bought seafoods are sustainable. Abide by local fishing regulations and be mindful of popular sites that risk being overfished. Follow DPNR Fishing Regulations.
BE ACCOUNTABLE: Moor whenever possible, anchor in sand, avoid damaging reefs and seagrass beds. Reduce wake anywhere we encourage guests to enjoy the beautiful, Virgin Islands’ waters by swimming, snorkelling or floating and be mindful of turtles, reduce tender speeds. Pick up trash in harbors and on beaches.Maintain community and be helpful. Communicate to encourage responsible fishing, mooring, and anchoring practices. Report damaged balls via the DPNR Hotline app and/or national park. Crews act as stewards and advocates for our local marine resources.
