Co-Op Membership for PVD Things
Members of the Providence Library of Things cooperative:
- Must buy a one-time membership share for $20, in addition to annual dues
- Have one vote at general and other co-op meetings,
- Are eligible to be elected to the board,
- Are invited to attend steering committee meetings, the dates of which are listed on our website
- Have access to education about all aspects of the co-op, including its governance structure, bylaws, policies, and financial status,
- Will abide by the co-op’s bylaws and other policies when participating in the co-op’s governance,
- Are encouraged to participate in the co-op, and
- Will be refunded their member share purchase in the event they choose to resign.
- By purchasing this member share, you agree that you have read and will abide by the Providence Library of Things Membership Agreement (see above). This member share is not transferable except to the co-op
Borrowing Agreement for PVD Things
- Members must be 18 years old or over.
- Members buy a one-time refundable co-op share, and also pay annual dues (suggested amount of $1/every thousand of income. Ie income of $50,000 = annual dues of $50
- Prior to borrowing tools, all Members must: (a) complete Membership Application; and (b) sign Liability Waiver and Thing Borrowing Policy
- By borrowing an item, a Member is certifying that they are capable of using that tool safely and properly.
- A Member can borrow a maximum of 5 tools at any time. PVD Things reserved the right to increase item lending due to special circumstances.
- Only the Member is authorized to use PVD Thing tools.
- All tools borrowed are to be returned to PVD Things by close of business on their due date (due date is one week later, with one week renewal period).
- If a tool is returned late, the Member will be responsible for late fees. Late fees are capped at the value of the tool. Late fees on tools accrue at the rate of $1 per tool per day, including days that PVD Things is not open.
- Member is responsible for the full replacement cost to replace severely delinquent and/or severely misused and neglected tools. Fines must be paid in full before borrowing additional items.
- If a tool is 60 days late, the Member is given 1 week to return/replace tools or membership is revoked.
PVD Things reserves the right to use appropriate steps to retrieve delinquent tools or unpaid fees including the use of a collection agency and/or legal action. The Member will be responsible for all associated costs of such. PVD Things also reserves the right to forgive fees due to special circumstances.
The Member agrees that PVD Things is not responsible for any manufacturing defects in quality of workmanship or materials inherent in any borrowed tools.
- The Member agrees that if any borrowed tool becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, he or she must immediately discontinue use of the tool and notify PVD Things of the issue.
- All tools are to be returned clean and in the same or better condition as they were issued, barring normal wear and tear.
- PVD Things reserves the right to refuse the loan of any item at its discretion.
