RESIDENT CHEF INSTRUCTOR
A new recreational cooking studio for kids, adults and families is seeking an ambitious, up-beat, take charge Resident Chef Instructor. You should have the skills and experience to manage the day-to-day operations, spearhead our team of instructors and assistants and ensure consistent high quality event experiences, such as birthday parties, date nights, corporate events, cooking classes and family workshops. You must possess an innate passion for food, be a detailed multi-task master, a natural leader and a savvy problem-solver. You should be able to juggle responsibilities and balance various priorities. You must have a flexible schedule around the needs of the business which includes evenings and weekends. You must have a dynamic personality that can keep a crowd engaged and entertained whether they are 2 or 99. You are the face of our business and make the magic happen!
Key Responsibilities:
Teach. Lead and teach group culinary classes and events for kids, families and adults by delivering an engaging, fun experience with excellent and consistent service. Teach and coach team members and build morale.
Ambiance. Create a FUN and inviting ambiance for our guests. This is the art of culinary entertainment and our instructors are the heart of our cooking events. Engage and teach guests about various culinary skills, tips and tricks in a non-threatening social environment.
Facility. Maintain a well-stocked, event-ready, organized and clean kitchen. Manage shopping/ordering of event supplies and groceries to ensure the best price and reduced shrink. Keep our kitchen running top-notch at all times.
Food Safety. Ensure proper food safety and food handling practices are always in place. Manage regular cleaning kitchen cleaning checklists and schedules. Keep employees accountable for cleaning. Ensure all company policies and Dept. of Health laws are followed.
Food Preparation. Ensure all food is prepped for events. Pre-make select food items/recipes for classes and events as needed.
Job Requirements:
● Proven leader with customer service experience working with people of all ages and skill levels
● 2 years’ experience in a management position with a culinary background
● Formal teaching experience and training in education is a plus
● Confident with a range of cooking and baking techniques
● Comfortable speaking in front of a group and have a clear amplified speaking voice
● Working knowledge of kitchen operations and management and demands of an event-based business
● Events run from 9 am to 10 pm so the ability to work a varied full-time schedule in order to teach classes, train and mentor team members and observe for quality control is a must.
● Must be a great communicator (both verbal and written) as you will be communicating on a daily basis with guests, staff and ownership
● Anticipates and solves problems by taking decisive action, following up with management on solutions and outcomes
● Formal culinary education or equivalent experience required - culinary instruction experience is preferred.
● Must pass a background check and be first aid/CPR certified
● Must have a Food Manager Certification
