Whole-class music-making significantly impacts children's attitudes and behaviour because it develops their social and emotional skills - there are many advantages for everyone taking part:
- improved pupil confidence, concentration and self-discipline
- fosters empathy and teamwork
- boosts mental health and wellbeing
There are also physical and cognitive benefits to learning an instrument too. For example, instrumental playing enhances fine motor skills and control, improves hand-eye coordination and reinforces directional and spatial awareness. In addition, active involvement in music provides opportunities to apply skills and knowledge gained from literacy and numeracy.
Whole-class instrumental lessons allow your pupils to further their performing and composing skills, listening and appraising skills, and learn more about posture and technique. They will also explore pitch, dynamics, structure, and mood in music and extend their musical vocabulary.
