    Screwston Anti-Fascist Committee

    Membership and Involvement Form
  • Thank you for your interest in supporting the Screwston Anti-Fascist Committee. Since forming in 2016, we have maintained a small but committed membership of organizers and have received tremendous amounts of support from outside our direct membership as well. In an effort to grow our committee and the work we are able to do, we have broken down a few ways for people to get involved into categories which are described below. Please select all options which interest you and fill out the corresponding forms on the pages that follow.

  • Types of Involvement

You may select multiple based on your interests
  • Committee Membership

Joining the committee directly as a member
  • The most direct and impactful way to get involved in fighting white supremacy in Houston is to join the Screwston Anti-Fascist Committee directly as a full time Committee Member. This involves anywhere from daily to weekly activity and participation in the things we do. Members must participate in organizing chats, attend general meetings, help with organizing tasks, and attend events when possible.

We are currently not taking Committee applications from white men - though we do have white people in our group who work hard and are valued dearly. The main reason for this is to maintain a white-minority and male-minority group where non-white people can be represented strongly. This can shift over time and white men are still free to submit applications which we will hold onto for the future. They may also join the community discord server by filling out that application instead.

  • Community Action

    Joining our community action server
  • If you aren't able or interested in joining the committee itself, you can still plug directly into Anti-Fascist actions with us through our Community Discord server. There are no requirements to join and participate aside from a small verification process to weed out malicious parties. Members of the Community Discord will have access to Anti-Fascist Action notifications, theory discussions, community events and activites, networking with other local Anti-Fascists, and more.

  • Public Support

    Supporting us in other ways
  • If none of the above sounds like a good fit or you just want other ways to help, we always appreciate public support from outside the inner workings of our group. The work we do is funded primarily through sales and donations in our online shop, so financial support there is greatly appreciated! You can also follow us on any of our social media platforms (listed below) to stay up-to-date on any public events we have coming up. Attending public actions is essential to driving white supremacists out of our city, and the general (non-member) public usually account for the majority of participants in our actions. We also recieve a lot of intelligence from anonymous tips, email us right away if you have information about white supremacists, racists, homophobes or other bigots in the Houston area.

  • Committee Membership Application

  • Before applying to join the Anti-Fascist Committee we require that you review and agree with our points of unity. If your application is approved and you join the committee, we expect the following:

    • Participate in group chats
    • Help with organizational tasks when possible
    • Attend general meetings when able, and read the notes of meetings you miss
    • Partipate in projects and events based on your availability and interest

If you do not feel that you can fulfill these requirements but still want to contribute to the work we do, consider the other options on the first page of this form. We do not require any special skills or talents among applicants and can train any willing person to do any of the things we do.

As noted in the first section, we are not taking committee membership applications from white men at the moment for the sake of both group composition and security. We encourage white applicants to apply for any of the other options on the first page, and to understand that if you do apply for committee membership we may keep your application on hold until this policy changes.

    • ❷ Application Form Review

    • Once we recieve your form we will have members review it and decide wether or not to schedule an interview with you. (Up to 1 week after scheduling)

    • ❹ Activity or Training

(Up to 2 weeks after interview)
    • If the interview goes well and we want to move forward with your membership, we require that prospective members attend either and upcoming activity or training with us. If no activities are scheduled before the next general meeting would be set to occur, we can conduct one of our trainings for you to attend instead. Which training we are able to do will be based on a combination of  your interests and our member availability.

    • ❺ General Meeting

(The next general meeting after your activity)
    • After you have attended an activity or training with us and no issues have come up, we will invite you to attend our next monthly general meeting. These typically occur around the start of each month, and you will be notified of the specific day and time beforehand. If you can't attend that specific meeting, you will have to attend the one after, at the start of the following month, before starting membership. In some cases we can shift our meeting to accomodate your schedule if you let us know as soon as possible and other members agree.

    • ❻ Probationary Membership

(For your first 30 days of membership)
    • Once you have attended your first general meeting and met our other members, you will be added to our group chat(s) after the meeting ends. At this point you have started membership and will effectively be in our group as a regular member, but without access to certain things such as group accounts.

    • ❼ Full Membership

(30 days after your probationary period started)
    • Approximately 30 days after you started your probationary membership we will be scheduled for our next monthly general meeting where you will finish your 30 day probationary period and become a full member assuming no issues had come up during that time. After this meeting, you will be given access to group resources and platforms we use for various purposes. This is the end of the membership process and there are no further steps for members to complete beyond the basic membership expectations laid out at the start of the application.
