Job Description (Personal Care Service)
Personal care is a service designed to enable a consumer to achieve optimal functioning with ADLS and IADLS, and includes personal care services and homemaking tasks appropriate to a consumer's needs. Personal care services must be provided in the consumer's place of residence.
Personal care services include, but not limited to: 1. Assisting the consumer with managing the household, handling personal affairs and providing assistance with self-administration of medications. 2. Assisting the consumer with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, grooming and other activities of daily living. 3. Preparation of the consumer's meals. 4. Assistance with housekeeping chores as specified in the consumer's plan of care. 5. Provision of respite services to the consumer's caregiver.
PCA must also meet at least one of the following: I. Be listed on the Ohio department of health's nurse aide registry 2. One-year supervised employment experience as supervised home health aide or nursing aide, and have successfully completed written testing and skills by return demonstration prior to initiation of service provision. 3. Successful completion of the Medicare competency evaluation program for home health aides without a 24-month lapse in employment as a nurse aide or home health aide. 4. Successful completion of an ODH-certified home health aide training program, or a certified vocational program in a health-related field and successful written and skill testing by return demonstration. 5. Successfully complete sixty hours of training as a PCA.
