    About Prepaid Service from Heartland

    • Payment for electric service is made in advance.
    • An initial account balance of $35 or greater is required to start prepaid service.
    • Monthly billing statements will not be sent. Account balances can be found 24/7 online at www.heartland-rec.com or by calling our automated system at (888)999-5517. Billing statements can be printed online.
    • The amount charged per kilowatt hour for electricity is the same for prepaid members as it is for traditionally billed accounts on the Time of Use rate.
    • Other standard fees such as the service availability charge and sales tax will be charged daily.
    • Immediate disconnection will occur when the account balance reaches -$5 based on true meter readings. Service Availability and any other flat charges will continue to accrue. Disconnection does not excuse you from owing any balance on your account. No disconnections on weekends or holidays. Disconnections will occur at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments made online or by automated phone system will result in immediate, automated reconnection, even after hours. Payment must be sufficient to bring account back to a credit balance in order to prompt reconnection. Payment may also be made at one of our offices during office hours.
    • No late penalties, collection charges, or cutoff charges will be applied.
    • However, if service is shut off for seven days, the service will be considered inactive and an additional $35 deposit will be required to reactivate.
    • Checks that are returned for insufficient funds will be removed from your account and you will be disconnected if your account balance has gone negative. Returned check charges will be charged to your account.
    • Switching back to a traditionally billed account can be done at any time. A new credit report will be run and a deposit may be required depending on the results.
    • Heartland's cold weather rule does not apply to prepaid accounts. Disconnections will occur regardless of weather conditions.
    • Note for those reconnecting service after a period of disconnection: In the event a member orders a disconnection and reconnection of service at the same premises within a period of 12 months, Heartland may collect as a reconnection charge the sum of such minimum bills as would have accrued during the period of disconnection. (In other words, you will have to pay all of the Service Availability Charges you missed during that time period.)

    Prepaid Payment Options

    Pay online through SmartHub
Our free SmartHub service, available online and on your smartphone, allows you to make payments using your debit/credit card or bank account whenever and wherever you want. Learn more at https://www.heartland-rec.com/smarthub.

    Call our automated phone system
Heartland follows the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, which means our Member Service Representatives do not handle credit card payments over the phone. However, you can still make credit or debit card payments using our automated system by calling (855) 940-3902. You can also use this automated system to pay using your checking account information.

Drop off or mail in your payment
Payments can be dropped off at our Girard office, as well as at Community National Bank and Trust in Iola and Landmark National Bank in Mound City. Payments can be dropped off overnight, but reconnection will not take place until 9:00 a.m. on the next business day.

Checks can also be mailed to the following address:

    Heartland REC
    PO Box 40
    Girard, KS 66743

Because mailed payments can take up to two weeks to arrive at the office, we strongly encourage other forms of payment.

    Low Balance Notifications

Notifications will be sent when we estimate that you have less than five days' worth of credit remaining in your account. Notifications can be received by email or text message.

In order to receive these notifications, you must register for a free SmartHub account. Get started by going to https://www.heartland-rec.com and clicking the "SmartHub Login/Registration" button at the upper right.

Once  you have registered your account in SmartHub, click on the "Notifications" tab and sign up for the Prepaid Minimum Notification.

Call us at (800) 835-9586 if you need help getting set up with notifications in SmartHub.

Notifications are a courtesy. We cannot guarantee their receipt. Failure to receive a low balance notification will not prevent disconnection.
