This High School Mock Trial National Advancement Commitment Form ensures consistency, quality, enthusiasm, and commitment in the team advancing to the National High School Mock Trial Championship. It also ensures that the same level of high performing students are competing at the national level.
The SC Bar Law Related Education Division requires signatures of all teacher coaches, advancing students, and students’ parents and/or guardians to sign and affirm their commitment to advance to the national level of competition to include additional practices, a scrimmage with feedback from judges, and national competition participation.
Teams competing in the national competition consist of seven to nine official student members assigned to attorney, witness, and timekeeper roles representing the Prosecution/Plaintiff and Defense sides. The state team must have a minimum of seven student team members. Only seven of the nine official members will participate in any given round with three attorneys, three witnesses, and a timekeeper.
The team advancing from the State High School Mock Trial Competition to the national competition, per the SC Bar Law Related Education Division, may only substitute up to two alternate students listed on the state team roster. In addition, six of the nine official students must have performed at state as an attorney or a witness.
Should the state team have to substitute more than two performing students with alternate students listed on the state team roster, the SC Bar reserves the right to remove the state team at any point prior to the national competition.
This form is due at noon the Friday following the state competition with no exceptions to allow proper notification to the first runner-up team, if needed.
