Dear applicant:
Thank you for your interest in adopting from us! We are an all volunteer, no-kill, animal rescue servicing Brooklyn, NY. We focus our efforts on older animals, sick animals, animals with behavioral issues that would not make it in a traditional shelter, but will consider in any animal requiring assistance. Our mission is to place all of our animals in loving, permanent homes. You are not purchasing a pet from us; you are adopting a living, breathing, feeling being that deserves safety, love and care. Animals have a full range of emotions and emotional needs. Your answers to this questionnaire are assurance to us that the cats we care for are going to good, permanent homes. All of the information on this application is confidential.
We do not use a first-come, first-serve process when adopting out rescue cats. Instead, we focus on best fit for each individual cat. The process is intended to ensure a long-term successful adoption for both the family and pet. Our rescues for adoption will be at their approved adopters home for a period of two weeks as a foster to adopt. At the two week mark from their first day at their new potential home, we can offer the adoption certificate and medical records once you are sure that the pet and your home and family get along well. Sometimes, and very unfortunately, the pet's personality and a resident pet's personality don't get along well or a resident human develops a severe allergy. In these cases, we wholeheartedly welcome the rescue pet back into our rescue so that you and the rescue pet can try again for your individual perfect matches.
Cats can live for 15-25 years, so please make sure your lifestyle allows the time, patience, schedule and ability to cover expenses your new pet will need over the years. Will you be travelling frequently, moving soon, or having children? Responsible pet ownership includes as-needed and routine veterinary care, quality food, preventatives, and other supplies. You must be at least 21 years old to adopt.
All of the cats and kittens available for adoption are fully vetted, which includes a complete veterinarian checkup, FIV & FeLV testing, spay/neuter, deworming, Advantage II flea treatment, distemper and rabies vaccines. At times, these cats may require dental work, or other health related attention, which which we also take care of, prior to adoption.
The adoption fee is $300 for kittens under 1 year, $500 for a pair, $250 for adult and senior cats. You are required to offer filtered water to your new pet and must present a water filter or proof of being able to offer spring water regularly to your new pet at the time of adoption. Lastly, an in- person home safety and home verification check is required by the date of the pet's arrival in your home. Neither the home safety and verification check, adoption costs or water filtration system requirement (such as water filtering capable pitcher in the refrigerator) are negotiable.
Most importantly, we accept any adopted cat back, no questions asked at any time now or in the future. We sincerely are grateful when an adopter is responsible and selfless enough to offer the cat another chance at a loving home when for whatever reason, it does not work.
