Program description:
StrongHER Girls Empowerment at A.G. Cox, seeks to provide middle school girls with the emotional, physical, academic and vocational resources to become strong and influential women with the capacity to value and develop their potential while avoiding unhealthy physical and emotional risk-taking behaviors. The combination of evidence-based programming, fortified with mentorship in a girl-positive environment, will equip girls to navigate environmental barriers and build the skills and behaviors that will increase their confidence, self-esteem, and decrease the likelihood of suffering from poor physical and emotional health. StrongHER goals include empowering girls to set and achieve their own goals and lead productive and self-sufficient lives. Strengthening teen girls from the inside-out, StrongHER will provide the building blocks to teen girls in our community who will become the future employees, business owners, parents and leaders who will shape the future of Pitt County.
Organizational Background in Education:
KCS has a nearly 10-year history of providing high-quality academic support and mentoring programs similar to our new StrongHER program. More than 2000 students served in the afterschool, summer learning and teen leadership programs have benefited from programming focused on developing the whole child. Participating afterschool and summer learning students exhibited 95% behavioral and social skills growth and 80% academic growth. We are excited to bring this expertise to AG Cox Middle School for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.
