Teaching & Behavior Policy
North South Studio has a hands on approach to learning. Projects will include foundational concepts such as color theory and technique. Art education has been proven to help develop such skills as critical thinking, problem solving and fine motor skills. Classes are meant to create a sense of community and stimulate a willingness to try new things.
A few behaviors which are not allowed (for all ages):outbursts, negatively criticizing others work, bullying other students, destroying a students artwork, distracting behaviors that cause other students to lose focus, failure to follow directions and stay in seat, running around the studio, throwing materials, or anything related to the examples listed.
Failure to comply may result in removal from classes. If materials are damaged, or another students work is destroyed by your child, those materials or class time will be reimbursed from your childs tuitions funds. We take behavior issues very seriously, and will remove students from classes at any point depending on the severity of the issue.
Safety Students are expected to wait inside the studio until parents arrive at pick up. We cannot accommodate late pick ups. Parents who are more than 10 minutes late picking up their child, are subject to a late pick up fee of $15/10 minutes. Students are allowed to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes early, but must wait quietly in our studio waiting area until class begins. Parents: PLEASE make sure your child has made it safely into the studio before leaving. If you prefer your child to walk to your vehicle at the end of class, please indicate this below (optional for ages 11 and up with parental permission). Children 10 and under MUST wait inside the studio for a parent or guardian. Understand that by signing this form, North South Studio and the Thibeault family cannot be held liable for any injuries that may occur should you allow your child to walk to your vehicle. Please note, during the busiest classes, the parking area can become a bit congested, so it is strongly encouraged that children wait for parents inside the studio.
If someone other than a child's parent or guardian (listed in this form) is picking up, a text message with this persons name (first and last) must be sent to us prior to pick up. A photo ID will be required to verify identity.
Payment Policy Payment is due before the start of a 4 week session, with the option to re-enroll. Due to demand, we cannot reserve classes until a sessions balance has been paid. Payment reminders are sent at the end of a 4 week session to give the option to re-enroll. Reminders are sent on Saturdays, and payments due by the following Monday to hold spots. Starting August 2025, if payments are not received by Monday, students will not be able to attend class. Payments can be made via credit card or cash. Cash is due by the Monday deadline. Students who have not paid for class will not be permitted to participate, and the spot will be offered to the next person in line on our waiting list. If enrolling in a pottery class, payment is due at the time of enrollment to secure one's spot. Payments are non refundable.
Cancellation Policy
All students enrolling in any of the studios weekly art programs must pay for 4 weeks at a time, regardless of missed classes. Make ups and credits are not permitted for any of our scheduled courses.
If we must cancel any class for any reason, that class will carry over into another week. This cancellation policy becomes valid at the intended start date listed on the form. If we must cancel a pottery session, we will issue a refund.
*NEW* starting August 2025:
to avoid increasing art lesson costs and to offset the increase in prices on materials, Our students are responsible for providing the following:
Fine Art/advanced art/ adult art classes: graphite set, micron pen set or similar, minimum of primary color paint set in preferred medium (watercolor, acrylic, oil), canvas if applicable. For any paint sets, we recommend primary colors (red, yellow blue), and white and black to get started. Students may use additional supplies in the studio, but we ask that they provide some of their own materials listed above. These materials can be labeled with students name and left in their designated cubby.
After School Classes: watercolor set, graphite pencil set, crayola marker set. These materials should be placed in a ziplock bag and labeled with the student's name. Bags will be kept in their cubbies for the duration of classes. Please make sure you provide an old tshirt to wear during class if you'd like to avoid getting clothes messy
Homeschool classes: watercolors, graphite pencil set, canvas (if applicable), and drawing pen set (microns or something similar)
if you are unsure where to obtain these supplies, please reach out and we can help. Students may place supplies in gallon ziplock bags with their name on them. These can be left in the studio in student cubbies.
Art Class Info
Our goal is to provide an inclusive environment where students are free to grow artistically at their own pace. We want students to feel empowered to be the happiest, most creative versions of themselves. We plan projects which are age appropriate and are meant to touch on various techniques.
Our morning Homeschool Program provides structured based projects that develop technical and artistic skill. Projects will vary in medium and subject matter. This is an all age setting, but projects are modified according to developmental appropriateness. Pay every 4 weeks for this course; there is no particular start date. Clay is not included in this program.
Our After school Programs allows for a fun social setting, where children work on structured/guided painting, drawing and mixed media projects. Projects will vary class to class. Elementary and early middle school ages are recommended for this group. Pay every 4 weeks for this course; there is no particular start date. Clay is not included in this program.
Fine Art Classes gather in small group settings, while students work on individual projects at their own pace. Students are free to choose their subject matter, or the instructor can provide a fun, challenging project. This group is recommended for middle school age and older. Please note, these groups are for quiet workers who have a strong focus on projects. We expect our fine art students to attend classes regularly. Consistent absences may result in removal from our program. Fine art classes are intended for students who are serious about learning and growing techniques. Pay every 4 weeks for this course; there is no particular start date. Clay is not included in this program.
Advanced Art Classes are for students who have spent time in other art programs in the studio and meet a list of criteria that places them at a challenging level. This group works quietly on individual projects at their own pace. They are expected to focus and work quietly while in the studio with other students. Absolutely no distractions are allowed. Outburst, loud talking, etc can be distracting to quiet workers, and some of our students may be building portfolios for college. This group is recommended for mid-late middle school age and older. Students in the advanced art class are invited to showcase their work at a student show at the end of each school year. Students are expected to attend class regularly. Continued absences may result in removal from our program. Students will work on building websites for their work, and are given weekly creative tasks to stimulate creative thinking. Pay every 4 weeks for this course, there is no particular start date. Clay is not included in this program.
Our summer class pack option allows students to choose from a list of classes offered throughout the summer. One class pack is the equivalent of 4 classes. This schedule can be found on our website. Classes must be booked in advance. Classes may be spread out over the course of the summer, or multiple classes can be booked in one week. Students may reschedule with a 48 hour notice, and depending on availability. Tuition can not be reimbursed and classes are not prorated.
